speaking of champagne tastes and beer budgets; i stopped into cvs to get a scrip on my way home monday...long story they had just put up a s-load of alcohol 4 75% off---i got as much as i could carry 1/2 a block and the guy noticed my id expired last week so he told me i better make a plan if i wanted more. so i looked at my reciept and i saw if i bought another 4$ bottle of sauza tequila and another bottle of 3$ wine i got 8$ back in extra bucks...lucky i had already told the md i had absolutely no intention of giving up alcohol or spicy foods...mumm's 4 6$ a bottle??? lol.needless to say i found a friend with a valid id. paid 20...saved 98-did about that well yesterday but not quite. winner winner chicken dinner

i am a coupon clipper from way back and owned exactly one vehicle from the day i started law school until the day i left (3 years...those books were HEAVY...sweet '69 buick skylark deluxe with basically no brakes and a carburetor i constantly had to jam open with a screwdriver). anyone who owns a car in chicago in wrigleyville is a masochist or a moron. i live with a friend who is both...i can carry 5 bottles of booze 2 blocks when necessary, so yesterday, with the car, i got 10.

I think there is something special about spending time to "perfect" a recipe. My sibling has been working on their pizza recipe, all from scratch, from the day the pandemic started. I think they said 97 and counting. and......its finally right. Figured out how to use a certain bottled mineral water somewhere along the way, etc. And.......I taste tested it and it was worth the 97 times. Dough as perfecta. I would like to do this with a risotto. apparently that's one of the first things they teach you in Culinary school. It's like italy's version of mac n cheese except with rice. And there's just so many ways to do it, and so many different meat or vegetable garnishes you can use on top. And, I love rice, so there's that. I spent many evenings watching Gordon Ramsay. (by the way, he isn't much like the way they portray him, but Americans demand a lot of hyperbolic over the top drama behavior, so they got that. If you watch the Brit version its much more civilized. But he's actaully a very good mentor and you see that come out when he finds a young person buried in some nowhere kitchen somewhere, from a poor working class family, but a HIGH EFFORT kinda kid, who has real curiousity about cooking.........and coujld even be the dishwasher at the time. Part of being good at what you do is *recognizing* the traits it requires to become a great chef...it's not something for lazy poeple who have poor observation skills, or who are low effort. Sort of like being a successful horse player...it aint a "game of darts" like so many play it. oh, and merasmag, I remember carburators. My brothers would take them apart on newspaper on kitchen table, cleaning and working on them for weeks (we had to eat on the LV floor with plates in laps, mom was pissed.) that was back when nobody gave you a car.......you found one in a farmer's field missing a door and a hood and it wasn't running and somebody told you "you can have this if you can get it home".........and you were THRILLED. Anyway, the funniest part was....there was always some Tiny Little Screw that was left over after the carb was put back together. We laughed so hard about it. Every single time, something didn't make it "back in there".......and worked anyway.

after i made corned beef and cabbage i made chili a few days ago...we agreed it was one of the best batches in 5+ years---the only thing i can swear i did different was throwing sum white pepper in bcuz i like it...google is f'in me over 2day which is unfortunate. but the best risotto (asparagus) i ever made was mary ann murciano's and i'm sure i cheated a little bit. i have been ordered to eat protein every am under penalty of death so i guess i better go wash sum pots
