Not hard to see where Juv Turf contender The Black Album got his name from. Oscar Performance stood for quite a while calm, cooled, and collected waiting for the turf to open. Oscar Performance coming off after his work this morning. Wild Illusion was quite the handful this morning to say the least! Line of Duty galloping by on the turf The Appleby/Godolphin trio - Wild Illusion - La Pelosa - Line or Duty head off the track. Hope you enjoy and will try to send more Friday and Saturday if able. Best of luck! David

Not going to lie Hoop, I fanboyed out a bit over Enable. So cool to go over and be on the turf. I was so taken aback by her that I missed a lot with the camera and even some with my eyes.
On the day though, I missed a good portion of the first set of BC horses as people simply do not know how to drive a vehicle around a backside. Spectators so park and walk, not try to drive all the way to the rail. CD needs to get the vehicle traffic under control or they will have a problem. Rant over, saw the Brown crew out and Newspaperofrecord looks the part. I heard others say she is a larger filly, looks like a 3YO, but I thought she was slightly built; the type that will have no problem skipping over the soft going as she has proven twice before. Fourstar Crook (pic above) also looked good. Mixed Complexity who I wanted to see but Brown certainly has an embarrassment of BC riches as noted by all the saddlecloths outside his barn.
The first horse to make me utter an audible “WOW” was none other than West Coast. When he came out onto the track, neck bowed, he looked amazing. He galloped spiritedly and was a handful coming off, bucking and kicking. McKenzie certainly looked amazing, so much so that I couldn’t take my eyes off of him to snap a picture. If he lost weight after the PA Derby he seems to have put it back on plus some as I thought he carried tremendous flesh. Game Winner also looks like a powerful typical 2YO Baffert and can’t fault him on appearance.
Thunder Snow motored by about the same time (his pic is the blur above with the rider in all Godolphin blue). He seems to be thriving here and is one I am certainly using. Talismanic was on the track with him, unmistakable with his blaze, but missed the shot as he was once around and gone.
A few in and outbetween the 8:30 break and prior to the turf break including the Romans pair of Promises Fulfilled and Seven Trumpets, plus others. Nothing too noteworthy but I was already focusing on being able to go over with Enable. Oscar Performance stood and waited forever for the turf to open and never turned a hair. He galloped nicely and made a favorable impression. Enable stole the show for me as I was mesmerized. I know no Arc winner has won the Turf but she is anything but typical. While she was out, Wild Illusion was a HANDFUL! She dumped the rider who was luckily able to land on his feet and grab the reigns. She then took off and wanted to do much much more. No shots of Expert Eye but he caugh the eye of this... well, not expert. Lily’s Candle looked in good flesh coming into the Juv Fillies Turf as did La Pelosa and especially so East who will likely find her way on to my tickets now. Line of Duty solidified my belief that he is the one in the Juv Turf as well and in that race The Black Album makes it easy to see how he got his name. Not much to rule out honestly on looks from my eye today although I will say Roaring Lion was washy and a bit antsy and Waldgeist looked to me to already be getting his winter coat. It was quick glance so could be wrong but at a glance more of a negative impression than positive.
I’ll try to get some paddock and track shots Friday and Saturday if I am able. Best of luck to all!

Thanks Ozzy , all I’ve been seeing on Twitter is glowing reports on just about every horse so it’s nice to hear about some that may not have impressed as with the Breeders Cup there are not many opportunities for automatic tosses. Am thinking of singling Enable in the Pick Four and going more heavy on the Classic and today’s impressions from you are steering me further that way.

Bev, I would never recommend anyone handicap based on my observations but I am telling you, seeing Waldgeist in photos today versus what I saw yesterday, they body clipped the horse in the last 24 hours.

I went to the paddock before each race just to take a walk and warm my body up. Glad I checked out Game Winner. Looked physically superior to the other animals. Big wide and strong. Another chalky winner but he got a heck of a fight from Knicks Go so at least the race was exciting.

What Bev said!
Thanks for the great images David, really gives us an intimate feel of being there, especially with your access. As a guy who has taken a couple of photos at the track over the years, I can tell you sincerely that last image of Baffert holding Game Winner, with the grandstand and setting sun behind, is outstanding! Well done.

Some might say the story of the day was... Japan had a terrific Breeders' Cup! Don't know how... but my phone created this PANORAMA shot stitching photos together.
THE BIG STORY OF THE DAY... Acacia Courtney got to meet Badactor!

Thanks for the great photos Dell . I think the Japanese trainer was wearing the hat that I left at Santa Anita !
Dell, it didn’t look very busy compared to others Breeders Cups. Any observations on that ?

The crowd... smaller than they might have been ...still had heart. The crowd size was limited by design... covid precaution, you know. However, only a few were masked. I wore mine while in the building.

Outstanding photos Dell! Nice image of Brad Cox leading Knicks Go and Joel out to the track for the Classic. I notice that the ladies all pose in style, with real smiles, for you. You have the knack, mack! Way to channel your inner Wesley Ward in the Acacia close-up...lol. Acacia is a knowledgeable student of the game, and now that she is marrying into the Clement barn, even more so. But I must say, once you've seen her in person, she really is stunning. Stops you in mid-stride. Even MadameBlum, who would normally be smacking me in the back of the head right now, thinks so. Thanks for all the pics, looks like you had a whale of a time.

Nice pics. Like your pearly whites Badactor! Lovely ladies dressed to the nines. I think I'll always remember the BC @ Santa Anita, not so much for the horse racing (which was outstanding) but for allowing me to meet spider, the Macs, and the media darling known as Mr. Bev Hendry.
