Looks like it should be another solid season. I’m keeping my eye out for John Ortiz trainees who have been prepping for the lucrative state bred program at Oaklawn.

Only played 2 races today and guess it was my lucky day. race I played was the maiden R6. I L OVED the breeding of that home-bred FTS Hewitt had in the miaden in R6, and I emailed it out to friends to play her. (She's Storming at 47-1) Dr. Clement is a brilliant breeder to pick out Calumet's Hightail Sire for a perfect marraige with that mare......||
As for Tyler's Tribe, had a long convo with friends about him last night. Look, he's an excellent gate horse. And he has speed, but I think he's a "bleeder" to be honest. Something happened to him along the way, IMHO. Not so much back to Iowa but maybe some time off and figure out what is going on in his windpipes.
I can't fault a horse who has won 5 conseq despite being a lowly Iowa bred, as a matter of fact, i love it when horses like this win big races.
So II took a shot on the "other speed--- which I wrote about elsewhere (sorry didn't make it here today) ........ Monet and Alto ...... and they ran 1 and 2. Speed over slop is always a good bet.
Will rain tomorrow so probably won't play at all.

Also want to say: There are TONS of great horsemen out there. Unfortunately, in many cases, we will never know this.
How many Helen Pitts do you think are working on the backside? MANY! She conditioned CURLIN from a yearling all the way up to a 3 year old........he never set foot on a track till he was 3.
And, what happened? Jackson bought the horse out from under her and gave to Asmussen. Who has a shot when only money talks?
US racing is ruined for me. I look at how trainers interact with horses, too, Mott looks as comfy around a horse as he would with his own human children. Larry Jones saddles almost all his own in the paddocks. Asumussen despite being a supertrainer, he is not scared of horses.....he can deal with cantankerous dangerous Tapits.
Baffert OTOH always looks uncomfortable around them, he stands very far away from them almost all the time. Authentic picked up on that when he knocked him down LOL
But all the truly WONDERFUL trainers and there are many many many......and horses with beautiful breedings who with the right patiient trainer, could become truly good classic distance horses, but that kind of training takes years and you can't go for the precosious win-early types, training a long distance router takes TIME. And the little guys, they don't have the big bucks for the special feed guys and vets. They don't have 300+ horses in barns all over that they can just have 4 waiting in the pipes, throw against wall and see what sticks, and therefore have 5-10 "extra chances".
The little barns in the US have no shot. Which is why I mostly left US racing. 2-3 SSME super trainers in stakes races of small fields, with multiple horses who run merry-go-roudn boring races....no thanks.
They have killled racing. Guy who had Obesos. A very good trainer.. Helen Pitts. John Ortiz, a decent human being and good horseman..........they aren't given the BEST BREEDINGS..........I would love to see what U.S. racing COULD LOOK LIKE. But I've waited 20+ years and I have given up.

It is very hard when you want the action to confine yourself to the 1 or 2 races you are super-confident in...at least for me and that's why i just do little w p and show races at overseas tracks and blow money in north america on a too-regular basis-thanks for reminding me to bet now on the 4 horselets(tm) i have in a few hours. 2 md appointments 2day and no time to decipher US trainer bs

Turns out I was right about Tyler's Tribe. And so were you in a differnt way Hooper. I think they should've put him on the shelf after the BC for a while. That Breeders Cup race was a non-Lasix race.. He came in 12th. THAT was indeed the conversation I had with my friends...I knew then that he bled. (before they announced that he had). You know how horses look when they just hang like that. So he goes to the Advent Stakes on Friday 12/09 at Oaklawn, and just ....hangs. And now it's official............the connections just announced that he bled in the Advent. (Where is Jack van Berg when you need him to explain this stuff? he had a good video out on this........RIP Jack i sure do miss you!) In japan, a horse bleeds 2x in a row like that, they are given one more chance after a rest, and then deemed not to be cut out to be a racehorse. I hope this guy is okay. He's a lovely horse. He will go on the shelf for a while.......what a really nice horse though, but too much too much maybe. They put him in over his head and with much alacrity I think P.S. I bring up Jack becasue he was at one time old school, then he woke up and started to see the light. By the end of his life he got it. The PROBLEM with the tyler's tribe story is that the pro-lasix folks will say "see? not using lasix is hurting horses!" and it's not really that simple. But it's enough to keep lasix alive and well here when the rest of the world doesn't have to use it.
