GOING: GOOD, Good to firm in places (GoingStick: Overall 7.3; Stands' side 7.3, Centre 7.2, Far side 7.2) (Watered) (Far Side Course) (Mostly cloudy)
NEW R1 (8:50am EDT)- 1m (Row) British EBF Rosemary Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/819718
Seven 3yo fillies take on their elders. #6- Crenelle (5-1) was necked by Random Harvest at Haydock in August, but that one has since run a dud in a GIII, suggesting her form has topped. 3yo Crenelle has been progressive through five starts, one mile over good ground is her sweet spot. #7- Crystal Caprice (2-1) is a progressive 3yo also, Stoute/Ryan Moore have won three straight with this Frankel filly. Might get overbet, but they only pay out the winning numbers.

NEW R2 (9:25am EDT)- 1m4f (Row) Dubai Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/819716
Field of eight going 12F. No secret that I'll be using #7- Sea Silk Road (6-5) in here, 3yo Sea The Stars filly has had a limited campaign as Haggas tries to strengthen her up, close second in Ribblesdale (GII) at Royal Ascot shows her merits. #2- Eternal Pearl (2-1) is a 3yo Frankel filly for Godolphin/Appleby/Buick, has won three in a row including a GIII in France when last seen, nice to win for the race sponsor and such. Almost used #4- Peripatetic (20-1) on top, she is a also a progressive 3yo trained by white-hot Roger Varian, who reaches out to Ryan Moore for the ride. No way that m/l price holds, but if she goes off north of 8-1 a win saver is in order.
EX- 2,7/1,2,4,7
NEW R3 (10:00am EDT)- 7f (Row) Rockfel Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/817907
Morning-line maker is bonkers for C&D winner #2- Commissioning (9-5) off that lone maiden win which, while impressive, doesn't match up with the established stakes form of #3- Dance in the Grass (8-1) and especially #8- Lakota Sioux (20-1 !). Both of them encountered soft ground last time and didn't go well over it. Looking for returns to form today. Bet Lakota Sioux to win at 6-1 or better!
EX- 3,8/2,3,6,8,10
NEW R4 (10:35am EDT)- 1m (Row) Joel Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/818831
#3- Pogo (4-1) is one of my favorite horses-in-training, he always gives his best at 7F & one mile. Finished second in this last year behind Benbatl. Only worry is the absence of regular rider Kieran Shoemark. #4- Tempus (5-2) missed all of his 5yo season but has developed into a Group-level gelding this season for Archie Watson and rider Hollie Doyle. Looking for fourth win in succession today.
EX- 4/2,5,7
NEW R5 (11:10am EDT)- 7f (Row) British EBF 'Confined' Maiden Stakes (Colts/Geldings, No More Than 2 Runs) (Class 4) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/819720
#10- Regal Honour (5-2) has a pedigree that reaches out and smacks you in the face. Godolphin/Appleby/Buick first-timer is a half-brother to Rizeena, which was a precocious 2yo filly, winning the Queen Mary(GII) at Royal Ascot and The Moyglare Stud (GI) at the Curragh. She followed up with a win in the GI Coronation S. at Royal Ascot as a 3yo. Regal Honour is also a half-brother to Summer Romance, which won a Listed race at Newmarket as a 2yo, a GIII at Epsom the following year, and a GII in Dubai in 2021. She finished her career with two seconds behind stablemate Althiqa in the Turf Triple Series at Belmont and Saratoga (GIs). Big shoes to fill, but expecting good things.
Several other interesting entrants, especially Mr Buster, a Sea The Stars colt out of the aging producer Olympienne, which is handled by Ralph Beckett and steered by Rob Hornby. Tab this one for later/longer; he's got an entry for the 2023 Epsom Derby!
NEW R6 (11:45am EDT)- 1m4f (Row) Godolphin Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/819717
#1- Without A Fight (2-1) won this race last year over a similar group, is in peak form right now. Hope they send him back over to Meydan for the Carnival again.
EX- 1/3,4,5
NEW R7 (12:20pm EDT)- 1m1f (Row) Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-90)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-09-23/819719
A strange race without too many obvious contenders. I'm not sold on #7- Stormy Ocean (2-1) firing first time back from the March layoff. #1- Value Theory (5-2) 3yo has been in fine form this summer, is two-for-three at Newmarket, gets his ground. #3- Leuven Power (9-2) is also a lightly-raced colt, for Roger Varian, needs to prove himself at 9F but his powerful victory at Salisbury two-back suggests this is within his grasp.
