The Prime thing covers Dylan/Butterfield/Bloomfield @ Newport pretty well. Interesting that Bloomfield turned down Dylan to stay with Butterfield. When visiting my best friend and wife(rip both) in the Cal Bay area in the early 70s, we went to Winterland Ballroom to catch the Butterfield reunion, with Bloomfield & friends, Elvin Bishop group and Butterfield's Better Days + a jam until close to 4am featuring Butter, Bloom, Bishop, Naftalin and Butter's bass and drums. They said it was being recorded for an lp, but it never was released. I bought some cds of the early Butter band from Naftalin, and he had nothing from that show and didn't remember it being recorded. Night ended with Bloomfield and Naftalin quietly jamming as everyone left.

Ever go to the Unicorn Coffee House in Boston, Hooper? I was there twice in the late 60s when on vacation with my parents. Caught an acoustic trio named Mortimer, then a night or two later, the amazing little known Colwell Winfield Blues Band, whose horn players later joined Van Morrison for Street Choir and Moondance.

did i tell this story here??? in carbondale' 78-9 there was a huge concert at the siu arena (heart, springsteen, english beat?) and in order to see this new band REM in the student center cafeteria you had to surrender your ticket stub to get in for a dollar or 2. we all went and stood 3 feet from them in a room we ate monsterous salads in for a pittance (it was like who can fill their bowl the highest). THEY SUCKED. peter buck later admitted how much they sucked on their early college tours...they REALLY did

when they won the national division 2(?) title in 78 there were sum PAR_TAYS-and wearing our friends football uniforms that halloween gave us MUCH street cred. same weekend as bob dylan and halloween, the beginning of the end of huge street parties there, 3 kids died, 1 or 2 hit by a train
