Saratoga Cup players- final day selection question

I hesitate to tinker with something when it is working well, but it seems like there could be a better way to handle Day-40 selections, concerning scratches due to weather and off-the-turf races.

Not everyone can revisit their picks in the late morning after NYRA announces scratches. There may also be cases where weather causes races to come off the turf after the noon deadline.

What are everyone's thoughts about modifying the rules? Currently, you lose your pick and you're out of luck. Do we want to allow one alternate selection in each race you have chosen? Do that, but only in off-the-turf races? Assign the post-time favorite in case of scratch?

Just to be clear, this concerns the FINAL DAY only. As the scorer, if I had to deal with scratches and alternate picks over forty days, my head would explode, and I don't want that  .

As a big procrastinator, I can say that Ben Franklin was right when he said: " Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today!"

The early bird gets the worm (and should)!

He who hesitates is lost (and all that)!

Tom, I wouldn't change a thing. CHANGES and SCRATCHES are all part of the game. And I lost 3 plays on Day 40.

Just my 2 cents.

It is your contest Tom…. whatever is best for you and your sanity….
I can see both sides of the above opinions ….
I myself like to wait until later in the contest to see where things stand before using all my plays….. so there being a way to not to lose one on the last day due to scratches would be a plus…

I like the format the way it is. That being said…I think one possible choice is you get the race favorite if your horse is scratched on the final day of the contest! Something is better than nothing!

I think that would encourage players to level out their picks during the 40 days of racing vs bombs away the last day!

How do the big tournament sites do it? An extra pick on the last day? Or like Jack said, the post time favorite.

that is why I did so poorly this year...I didn't want to take that away from you...can't promise the same next year

I'd say leave it as it is, but is this a valid workaround to the no alternates rule?
