4th-Saratoga, $105,000, Msw, 8-28, 3yo/up, 1 1/8m, 1:50.11, ft, 6 1/4 lengths. GASOLINE (c, 3, Curlin--Yellow Agate {GISW, $291,503}, by Gemologist) was a pacesetting third debuting as a 5-2 favorite over a Gulfstream mile Mar. 19 before running a troubled fourth May 7 at Churchill. A narrow runner-up to next-out Curlin S. winner Artorius (Arrogate) June 10 at Belmont, the chestnut disappointed when retreating to fourth as the 5-4 chalk there July 8 and was let go as the 8-5 second choice to make amends here. Away sharply and hustled early, Gasoline dictated terms while chased by Bold Looker (Arrogate) through fractions of :23.89 and :48.37. Even-money chalk Sidekick (Honor Code) tried to launch a challenge nearing the stretch, but Gasoline had plenty left and slammed the door past mid-lane en route to a sharp 6 1/4 length graduation. Bold Looker re-rallied to overtake Sidekick for second. The winner is the first foal out of his dam, who followed up a 32-1 debut upset with a win in the GI Frizette S. in 2016. Yellow Agate has produced foals by Quality Road each of the last three seasons--a filly in 2020, a colt last year and another filly this term--and was bred to Constitution for 2023. Sales History: $435,000 RNA Ylg '20 FTKSEL. Lifetime Record: 5-1-1-1, $92,450. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG. On behalf of my mom, my brother, & I, we wanted to say THANK YOU so much for the beautiful way of honoring my Dad. I'm so sad that I couldn't make it, but I know my mom & brother had a blast!!! Some words from my mom's Facebook tribute to the day:
"Yesterday I was reminded how blessed I was to be a part of Larry "Hezethebest" LaTour's life. He left a large footprint in all of our hearts and life. This past weekend was "Travers Weekend" which anyone who is enthusiastic & loves Thoroughbred Horse Racing as he did knows this weekend was blacked out from attending anything else. Larry's Picks was well known and he developed great friendships from Up in Class Horse Racing Forum which these friendships have endured & been bestowed to my family & me. In honour of my beloved husband, this group of friends who spent many Travers Days together put together a Celebration of Life in his honour. They sponsored the 4th race in his name on Sunday. They had t-shirts with Larry's photo on the front. We were honored to watch the race from the winner circle which I was presented with a plaque and a group photo was taken. Many thanks to all of you who arranged this day and special thanks to Bev Henry for the race. I love you all and look forward to seeing you next year. Larry I know was touched & was with us in spirit!"
