Day 23 - Bobtailnag gets off the mark on a one star day for UIC handicappers A gorgeous Saturday at Saratoga and along with a bumper crowd of 38,629 our contestants embraced the day with arms wide open under the sunlight knowing that with just one decent score their life was going to change. I was planning on giving updates after each race today but I’m Very Busy ($5.30) right now and the results are coming in Fast N ‘ Fearious ($34.40). Suffice to say our handicapping in the first two races was as cold as hell. It appeared everyone wanted to Take The Backroads in the third but Bobtailnag who had been 0-20 knew that the Train to Artemus ($16.40) was the best way to get to the winner’s circle. it’s always special to get a winner at Saratoga and even more special when it’s your first runner and the race is the Saratoga Special and that’s what appended to trainer Michelle Lovell when Damon’s Mound ($5.70) finished like a limestone cowboy to take the fourth. Quick Call and no doubt several others amongst us are kicking themselves for not selecting the popular Robbie / Jackie Davis combination which elicited more than one shout of Vallelujah ($51.00) after the longshot of the day came home in the fifth. You had to be the brains of the operation to select Neuro ($4.50) in the sixth and surprisingly none of us were up for a Bourbon Bash ($10.00) in the seventh as D Wayne Lukas strengthened his bid for Rookie of the Year. Arsignman and Cherokee Scot continue to chip away at PartsNut’s lead and Portfolio Company ($3.80) earned them a small return on their investment in the eighth . Happy Bob was a popular pick in the ninth but his hopes were blown away pretty quickly as Expressman ($3.90) mapped out an impressive victory. It seems unbelievable that Chad Brown has never won the Four Star Dave and once again there was no glory (regal or otherwise) for the Chadster as Casa Creed ($10.40) brought home another Grade 1 success for Bill Mott and Luis Saez. There was almost a miracle in the last but thankfully Madame Blum was on the right trail with Calloway Peak ($14.20) References www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/damon-moundwww.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/daniel-boone-scout-trail-to-calloway-peak

Day 24 - A little Bitowisdom can go a long way Another stunning day at Saratoga as our contestants hoped to end week five on a high note. Bitowisdom got the day off to a sharp start with KBCYA Later ($11.60) displaying a star attitude to break his maiden in the opener. Shesjustanicegirl was a popular choice in the second but she did not show enough Spunk to Coexist with MOMA ($21.20) who made a favorable impression in her debut and took home the Monet. Ziggy was looking for the Missing Link Which turned out to be Fire as Prairie Fire ($7.50) and Fire Sword ($8.20) took the third and fourth. Mrs Green ($5.10) was all class to give Bitowisdom his second of the day in the fifth and also gave me the opportunity to play a song I hadn’t listened to since 1968 (and probably never again) ! Chocolate Gelato ($6.60) put the cherry on top in the sixth for Bitowisdom with Arsignman and SpiderJohn also getting their licks in. Badactor decided to Choose Happiness in the seventh but it was Madame Blum who was Out of Sight ($13.20) Bitowisdom’s colorful day was complete in the eighth with Betsy Blue ($6.20) making it an impressive four wins on the day . Meanwhile Big Invasion ($2.70) did not attract any interest worth editorial comment in the ninth . Cindy Lou Jazz was looking to get back on track with FF Rocket but he had trouble getting off the launch pad and it was Brazillionare ($10.60) who ended up waxing the field in the finale . So that’s five weeks in the books and the chasing pack have still failed to overhaul PartsNut . Indeed long time challenger John Halvorsen has been firing bullets to such an extent that he only has one selection remaining while the winners from Cindy Lou Jazz , Jacckk8 and Ten Furlongs have rather dried up during this hot spell of weather and it has been Arsignman who has made steady progress in the last week. Still lots of opportunities for someone to come from off the pace in the sweet sixteen days remaining . References www.moma.org/artists/4058

Largemac and ndsc on deck waiting to pull the trigger in these last few weeks. One "good" long shot by someone, and .........best part of the race is the stretch run to the wire.

Day 25 - Bitowisdom on fire - extends winning streak to six 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 A lovely day at the Spa particularly for Bitowisdom who continued where he left off on Sunday when Snap Decision ($3.10) put on a faultless display of jumping to take the opener. However on the second the only ones making a Quick Return ($5.10) were the connections who claimed him last time out. It wasn’t long though before Bitowisdom was back at it again as Mommasgottarun ($3.70) chased down the long time leader to claim the third. There were relatively few picks this Wednesday so it wasn’t really surprising that most of us ended up piston broke after no one went to the hoop for Kemba ($5.70) in the fourth. There were some very well bred fillies in the fifth justifying a lot of attention but the impressive winner Socially Selective ($26.00) was not implicated by any of us. SpiderJohn has been hanging around at the edge of the leaderboard for most of the contest but he’s really put himself into contention after Legends Don’t Die ($21.20) took the glory in the sixth. U Glow Girl ($4.30) shined in the seventh but didn’t raise a flicker with our group while Sunset Louise ($10..00) who was a popular pick last time when she scratched attracted no attention this time around. Unsurprisingly given the short price nobody was panning for Dakota Gold ($2.60 ) in the ninth but Bitowisdom who is in a rich vein of form struck paydirt again in the finale when Go Big Green ($11.00) powered home with Trapshot also getting the green light after hitting the target. Day 26 - Golden opportunities missed It was an overcast Thursday at Saratoga with a particularly ominous cloud hanging over Chad Brown’s barn. In the opener Diablo was crying uncle but it turned out to be the wrong one for him as it was Uncle Water Flow ($4.10) who generated the power to win. Trapshot was looking for Eugene to make hay in the sunshine in the second but it was a Bustin Bay ($12.20) who got the oats. Track specialist Jill’s a Hot Mess was a very popular choice in the third but only Real Quiet was able to Get The Candy ($8.10). While most of us were shouting “no way Jose” , Indypacer was screaming “andale, andale” as Mexican Wonder Boy ($7.00) had the crowd of 24,224 throwing their sombreros in the air in the fourth. Grommet has not found the right name yet in the contest and once again failed to Clear The Deck ($7.30) in the fifth. Bitowisdom’s amazing run came to an end in the sixth when he took a shot in the dark and failed to Recognize ($6.80) the winner. None of us were alive to Immortalization ($4.60) in the seventh although we still might be able to resurrect this pick before the end of the meet. Jacckk8 jumped up to second place in the contest when Warrior Johnny ($7.60) vanquished the field in the eighth, a result that also saw 5 Wide move into the top ten. I have said a million times that it only takes one longshot to put yourself into contention but we all missed the launch of Golden Rocket ($68.50) in the ninth. Otis was not the only person in Saratoga looking for Cash Bail today but must have been browned off to discover that he had to Sell Something ($55.40) to get out of jail in the finale. Day 27 Chad Brown strengthens chokehold on trainers title with another twosome. After a rather tumultuous Thursday, even by Saratoga standards , it was back to business as usual on Friday. In the opener Arsignman was anticipating making some Psychic Income but obviously didn’t foresee Ministerial ($11.20) being capable of warding off the opposition. Many forum members were expecting Free Chickens in the second but it was a heartache and a fools game for them when they were totally eclipsed by Miss Bonnie T ($10.40). Cherokee Scot thought he heard Bourbon Calling in the third but it was The Reds ($4.10) who went marching in to the winner’s circle. In the fourth Transactional ($2.60) proved to be a more successful coupled entry for Chad Brown when he took the Triumphant Road to Outperform roommate Indemnify. Popular social media trainer Mark Hennig finally got off the duck today when Top of the Mint ($11.00) was able to hang tight and weather the storm in the fifth much to the delight of 5 Wide and MaumeeRiverAngler. In the sixth Let’s Go Big Blue ($11.20) put on a giant performance for coach Bill Parcells and our very own MVerrone although I was rooting for Master Sergeant to win as I wanted to thank Phlier Freak’s daughter for her service 🇺🇸. There were lots of Nay Sayers in the seventh but Camorous and Elk proved them wrong as Freedom Speaks ($8.40) once again 🇺🇸. In the eighth Leader of the Band ($15.60) was the first to act but we all dropped the baton on that one. Rosemary Potatoes was a popular choice in the ninth but failed to get up in thyme causing much Mirth N Merriment ($24.20) for the rest of us. Oxymore ($4.50) turned out to be a stylish winner for Chad Brown in the finale but all of us found it rather jarring. Day 28 No change of control on a chalky day at the Spa.
Alabama day at Saratoga brought few surprises on the track and little change as regards the contest. Doctor Disaster decided that today was the day to employ a shotgun approach but neither pistol or shotgun hit the target in the opener where Sebaray ($13.60) comfortably handled the opposition. There wasn’t a ghost of a chance of any of us picking Spooky Road ($5.10) in the second and Peaceful Waters ($5.80 was not adventurous enough for our crew. Road to Remember ($5.90) continued the winning favorite sequence and none of us were showed any Rarified Flair ($11.20) in the fifth.
Best Idea ($3.20) was nobody’s idea of value in the sixth but Doc D and Arsignman finally got our group off the mark with Echo Again ($3.20) in the seventh. Bored with twosomes and threesomes Chad Brown was no doubt feeling Haughty ($13.40) with his foursome in the eighth. Caravel ($9.80) sailed home in the ninth but none of were aboard. Arsignman edged up to fifth place after feathering his Nest ($2.70) in the feature and it might not have been a great return but a winner is a winner ! The day did thankfully end on a high note when Saratoga Flash ($9.40) displayed some sonic speed in the finale to send Turbine and Real Quiet home happy.

Day 29 PartsNut holds on for yet another week as three Sunday longshots find no takers After yesterday’s chalk fest Sunday at the Spa opened with a bang and Mverrone came within a neck of landing 22-1 shot Letter of Gold in the first but just like the passengers on the Titanic none of us had a Pleasant Passage ($33.20). Dr Duke helped Salestopper to her dramatic contest win last year but so far this year most of her hopes have gone up in Phantom Smoke ($4.80). Otis was looking for a lift with My Girl Lexi in the third but it was David Brown who got a Forty Smooth ($7.40) ride. Arthurian ($11.20) would have been a legendary pick in the fourth but we again we had to settle for El Segundo best. Meanwhile in the same race the claim for Vincent was voided by the NYRA vet (ear problem). Eight year old Devamini may have won graded stakes races for his well known wealthy connections but that obviously that wasn’t good enough to earn a well deserved retirement and he was claimed for $32k in the fifth race won by Tiberius Mercurius ($28.40). Rarify was a popular pick in the sixth but had to settle for second again as Grand Love ($11.40) got the job done for the aforementioned David Brown and MVerrone. Balthus ($4.30) may not be every one’s cup of tea but he certainly caught the eye of Nan 53 and David Brown in the seventh. Joly B was looking to break his duck in the eighth and had his pick down To a T but despite his objections the Stewards will not be Repealing ($4.30) the winner. In the ninth David Brown went four for ten on the day with Love Reigns ($3.40) who also edged Arsignman closer to the leaders. Finally , those of us looking for a revival in our contest ambitions would have done well to have given more creedence to Bayou Wind ($49.00) in the closer. References en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balthus

Day 30 Goldandmyrrh spares our blushes
Wednesday saw the start of the final two weeks of the Saratoga season and the first day of real weather disruption as a hard rain fell overnight resulting in all the races coming off the turf and the cancelation of the opening steeplechase. In the second PonyGirl believed The Splendid One was going to be the play of the day but she should have known better being a Gambling Girl ($4.40) . No selections from our group in the third something that I hope is not Built To Last ($7.10) . Meanwhile none of us were praying for Cathedral Beach ($6.10) in the fourth and Roderick ($3.50) attracted no followers in the fifth.
Not wanting to Overbore you with the details but Vocalize was a popular pick in the sixth , however with Bob Baffert in court this week Under Oath ($3.30) was truly the hunch bet of the day. I had a Gut Feeling that The Prince’s Spur ($4.40) would win but the odds put me off as the sequence of short priced favorites extended in the seventh. In Travers week it was surprising that no one decided to Mount Travers ($14.80) in the eighth which would certainly have been a Boldish move. It looked like we were allm heading for a Saad day at the track but fortunately Goldandmyrrh saved our embarrassment with Girl Dad ($13.40) being the only hay maker on the day in the feature. Lots of picks in the finale but we all made a gaff by missing out on Mariah’s Fortune ($22.40) as Rudy Rodriguez doubled his number of wins for the meet.

Day 31 No looking back as Bitowisdom rockets up the leaderboard After Wednesday’s disrupted card it was back to normal at the Spa on Thursday when 25,000 fans witnessed a Flavien Prat four timer and Johnny Velasquez record his 1000th winner at Saratoga. In the first race we were all too shy to select Naked and Famous which was just as well as he proved to be rather less than Supersonic ($5.20) . Grommet who was 0-22 at the start of the day was doing some soul searching after another heroic failure for 47-1 shot Elysian Fields in the second as Bitowisdom improved his lot with the success of Dontlookbackatall ($25.20). In the third DB Lakers was saying merci as Royal Spirit ( $9.60) outpointed St. Joe Louis. Even Hercule Poirot might have found it difficult to find Western Ghent ($26.80) in the fourth while Locally Owned ($7.80) found no shoppers in the fifth. Madame Blum was probably Beside Herself ($18.80) for missing out in the sixth and also the seventh where Dripping Gold got caught traveling by James Jones ($10.00) .Precursory ($14.00) stuck her neck out to take the eighth while Maumeeriverangler and DBLakers landed the catch of the day when Gina Romantica ($30.00) took the feature.in the finale PonyGirl went for Hesastonecoldfox and certainly got the stone cold part right as longshot backers were disappointed with favored Digital Future ($5.40) prevailing. Day 32 A sloppy day at the track with handicapping to match.
An abbreviated recap today as I’ve been up since 4 am and I arrived in Saratoga just in time for the heavens to open - such was the strength of the downpour that all races were taken off the turf . Thankfully the heavy rain stopped just prior to the opener where coach Bill Parcels got a warm reception when his Maple Leaf Mel ($3.20) , the choice of Indypacer, stormed home. That was our Phil of winners for a while as Kant Hurry Love ($8.50) was the unsung hero of the second while no one made the right boss moves in the third and fourth. There was a Scottish winner today (sadly not me) as Fingal’s Cave ($3.60) owned by Edinburgh born Aly Fyfe was all heart in the fifth.
Although we failed to Make Mischief ($3.20) in the eighth Trapshot had the Perfect Munnings ($19.60) in the ninth whOzzy had the misfortune to once again lose a winning pick due to missing the noon deadline. The tenth race was reduced to only three runners and Doc was thankful to get out of the day with a winner as SomeLikeIthotbrown ($7.60) banked it.

Day 33 David Brown gets into the groove
A crowd of just under 50,000 saw Epicenter win the Travers on a beautiful Saratoga Saturday on a fairly chalky day although favorites Jackie’s Warrior , Clariere and Broom were all swept aside. While most of us continue to swing for the fences Arsignman and SpiderJohn continue to chip away at the leader and this successful to date tactic received further Verifying ( $3.50) in the opener. Ozzy bounced back from his previous day disappointment displaying some Noble Emotion ($13.00) in the seventh. Arsignman doubled up in the eighth with Jack Christopher ($3.10) who also got the backing of defending champ Salestopper . On an unusually poor Travers day for our group ( there was not one double digit priced winner) David Brown ended the day on a high note when Wicked Groove ($18.20) was able to record a narrow victory in the finale.

Day 34 - Larry “Hezethebest” LaTour Celebration Day ends on a memorable note for Joly B
A glorious Sunday at the Spa in every sense of the word as UIC members gathered together to celebrate the life of our dear departed friend Larry LaTour. Making the occasion even more special was the surprise appearance of Larry’s wife MaryAnn and their son Mike who came at the last minute from a family wedding.
In the opener Goldandmyrrh thought he was playing a Clever Joke but it was the backers of the impressive Xigera ($4.30) who proved to be the smartest. Meanwhile Salestopper ensured that we were not going to get frozen out on the day when Cryo ($7.10) benefited from a chilly ride by Javier Castellano to register a bold victory in the second. In the third Nan 54 opted for a Smokin’ Hot Kitty when in reality she would have been better off to have been Stuck On Kitten ($6.20)
A gathering of twenty white tee shirted UIC members together with Larry’s family and friends had the perfect view of Larry’s race from the winner’s circle and although Jacckk8 made a valiant attempt to take the contest lead with the appropriately named Sidekick all it took was Luis Saez to put his foot on the pedal and produce one final surge of Gasoline ($5.40) , the selection of forum host Badactor (along with every other horse in the race 😜).
In the fifth Grommet thought he was playing a Funny Joke but it was the backers of Call Me Harry ($25.00) who proved to be the most sharp. . Meanwhile JohnnyBatTBD and Madame Blum got things back on track when The Great Maybe ($18.40) showed some Lovin’ On The Run in the sixth. Madame Blum’s day got even better in the seventh when she hopped aboard the Train to Artemus ($6.70) whose final destination was the winner’s circle.
With all the Practical Jokes being played only Salestopper had the Wit ($3.30) to select the right one in the eighth on a day that truly showed that Legends Can’t Die whilst our fond memories of them linger on. Our winning sequence continued in the Grade One Ballerina where Goodnight Olive ($13.60) showed the obligatory clean pair of heels to the rest of the field much to the delight of Nan 53. As we all know in sports it ain’t over till the fat lady sings and JolyB who had previously gone 0-33 jumped right into contest contention when Outlaw Kid (($52.00) displayed super quality to weave his way through the field to bring the curtain down on a wonderful day at Saratoga.

Day 35 Partsnut miraculously still leads as another contender falls by the wayside.
Last Wednesday of the meet and thankfully despite a less than optimistic overnight weather forecast all races stayed on the turf. Our resident National Hunt expert Propro has been on the receiving end of some guilty looks for his steeplechase picks so far this meet but thankfully he was Proven Innocent ($5.90) in the opener. MVerrone just missed out on a huge upset last week and it was deja vu all over again today when 30-1 shot Yogi just got pipped by I’m Nervous Now ($8.30) in the second. Meanwhile Beetlebomb got his name on the scorecard when Close The Game Sugar ($8.30) owned the field in the third.
Cherokee Scot kept his slim contest hopes alive and moved back into the top ten again when Scotish Star ($5.70) proved to be a fortunate hunch bet in the fourth. The Big Grey ($17.80) was the road to success in the sixth but unfortunately none of us took it while Sals Dream Girl ($6.50) was just a nightmare for our group. Seven Scents ($8.10) may have stunk it up at Ellis Park last time out but enjoyed the sweet smell of success toady I’m the seventh at Saratoga.
Propro doubled up with Banyan Breeze ($6.80) in the eighth and although the former champ is still far back he has plenty of picks left to make a sustained challenge. SpiderJohn’s quest for the title ended in the ninth with the wrong Casse horse which is a shame and the winner is Boppy O ($48.20). In the finale tge two most popular picks were He’sgottashortfuse who scratched and My Slick Nick who at the time of writing still hadn’t finished the race won by Basis Risk ($15.00).

Day 36 - Deep closer Salestopper begins to make her move.
The final Thursday of the meet and defending champion Salestopper thanks to some divine intervention got a jump start on the field with the decisive triumph of Theocrat ($27.00) in the opener. There was a total lack of long term thinking in the second resulting in a bout of Ragtime Blues ($6.90) for our group. Meanwhile Hooper and Propro had to run for cover in the third when Numero Seis ($13.40) ended up as numero uno.
Those of us looking for longshots had to say Bye Bye Melvin ($5.20) in the fourth while W W Fitzy ($5.10) did not fit the profile either. Bitowisdom however is very much in contention and with many picks still in hand was content to chip away at the leader with Inflation Nation ($3.90) in the sixth. In the seventh Rosemary Potatoes was a popular selection although not a sage one , well not this thyme anyways but as Camorous and Turbine would say Maybe Later ($17.60).The eighth race scratched down to only four runners but that did not matter to JohhnyBatTBD as the winner was still Invaluable ($10.80) to him.
More than a Diva was the consensus pick in the ninth but she did not live up to her name , putting on a lackluster performance which was totally devoid of Georgee’s Spirit ($15.80) . The last two races were a bust for us , both won by Jose Ortiz ridden favorites with the similarly sounding Be The Best ($4.70) and Be The Boss ($8.20) only bringing a smile to the face of long time leader, PartsNut

Day 37 Hail To SB West , the big mover of the day .
A Chamber of Commerce weather day greeted the patrons at the last Friday of the Saratoga meet. With only four days remaining UIC handicappers were out in force with JohnnyBatTBD , Onion , Propro, GeneRayburn and Nan 53 particularly active. The day got off to a great start for JohnnyBatTBD and Hooper with a blistering debut performance by You’re My Girl ($6.80) in the opener. GeneRayburn and Indypacer kept the run going in the second when Hit The Woah ($9.20) took full advantage of the awkward start by the favored Mail Order. In the third JohnnyBatTBD and Hooper found the cure for success again as Good Medicine ($9.30) went wire to wire to Outperform Most Wanted Man. In the fourth race GeneRayburn kept the sequence going when Mosienko ($9.70) scored in a race highlighted by the return to riding of the charismatic Katie Davis.
The fifth race on the turf looked a wide open affair with Lisheen a popular pick but at the end of the race we were all saying Hail To ($41.80) SB West who rocketed up the leaderboard with a couple of picks still left. Onion looked like he had found a nice longshot with Stonewall Star in the sixth but it was Propro who cashed in as Security Code ($5.00)reeled her in at the line. The seventh race would have been momentous for SB West had He’s Got it won but this time it was Onion who got some reward for his previous close run ins when Topic Changer ($8.40) came through late under Joel Rosario.
CindyLouJazz has been chasing leader PartsNut for what seems like an eternity and was hopeful that Proven Strategies would be the one to do it for her but it was Onion and Nan 53 who were celebrating after Thin White Duke ($10.40) got his nose in front of Dancing Buck in the eighth while Fauci kept a safe distance back in third. Union Lake was a very popular pick in the ninth but our eight race winning sequence came to an end with Wicked Halo ($10.80) as Rudy Rodriguez terrible meet continued with a stone cold Hot Peppers . In the the finale Propro was hoping to end the day on a high note with first time starter Nyshares but his hopes were dashed immediately the gates opened when the horse tossed her jockey to leave the other Linda Rice trainee Curlin’s Wisdom ($10.40) to prevail.

Tony , you have 6 bets to win $80.
PartsNut only had two winners. All you need is a 40-1 shot or two 20-1 shots. Ninth race today Sterling Silver who I liked was beaten a neck at 37-1

Day 38 Madame Blum is an instant success as PartsNut’s long reign comes to an end
The final Saturday of the meet and we have a new leader as PartsNut who has dodged more bullets than the Vice President of Argentina is finally overtaken. Indeed it seemed that long time contender CindyLouJazz would be the one to dethrone PartsNut as Fly Right looked sure to win the first until overhauled by General Jim ($9.50). What followed was a series of short priced winners with only Champions Dream ($4.60) in the sixth garnering the attention of Bobtailnag.
After 38 days our leader PartsNut was finally surpassed by Madame Blum by the margin of 40 cents (is that familiar Bert Convy) when Instant Coffee ($31.80) ground out a victory in the eighth. Past champion Bobtailnag also had Instant Coffee to make it two for two on the day.. There was an exciting finish to the ninth but whatever way you analyze it , Sanctuary City (($9.60) came out on top for GeneRayburn and Real Quiet. . Virginia Joy ($11.80) brought no joy to our group in the tenth while Olympiad ($$5.40) was running for medals only in the feature. Mr Breadwinner ($8.00) earned the dough in the twelfth just not for any of us and after that there was just time for a Quick Power Nap ($4.00) before studying the PPs for the final two days.

Day 39 Madame Blum on fire, builds lead entering final day
The last Sunday of the meet and many of us were looking for longshots to give ourselves a glimmer of hope in the contest. Unfortunately we missed out on a Vacation Dance ($18.60) in the opener and Greeley and Ben ($7.50) did not appeal at short odds. PonyGirl however opened our account in thee third and with picks left she can still be Forever Dreaming ($16.80) of lifting the trophy. Our new leader Madame Blum did not have to dive deep to come up with Cousteau ($6.30) in the fourth but she began to make the rest of us look foolish when Me N’ Sap ($24.60) bolted home in the fifth.
Following a long dry spell CindyLouJazz finally added to her total and with one pick left she moves up to third place after the success in the sixth of Take Charge Briana ($9.80) who was also the selection of GeneRayburn. Madame Blum’s brilliant day continued in the seventh with Free Look ($3.50) who also caught the eye of IndyOacer. In the eighth Palm Cottage ($5.60) attracted no visitors but in the ninth Madame Blum almost sewed up the title but her Citizen K was caught on the line by Catch That Party ($5.30) . JohnnyBatTBD believed he had a Succulent winner in the tenth but the stewards decided otherwise and La Victoria ($6.30) went elsewhere.
Like last year Hooper has kept his hopes alive until the final day and with nine picks left Leave No Trace ($31.60) has given him a fighting chance after taking the feature. The last race is often won by a longshot or an odds on favorite but sadly today it was the latter as Jet Set Juliet ($3.00) prevailed. So with one day to go Madame Blum has built up a sizable lead but is still vulnerable if someone in the chasing pack can hit a bomber. Please note that rain is in the forecast for Saratoga tomorrow and select your final picks accordingly (races may well be off the turf so MTOs and AES could get in).

Day 40 Congratulations Madame Blum on a well deserved victory !
The final day at Saratoga was the wettest one of the whole meet which certainly did not disappoint Madame Blum as with a host of scratches and races off the turf the chances of her being overtaken were considerably reduced. In the opener JohnnyBatTBD and Indypacer got off to a bright start with Atomic Girl ($9.80) but still needed to go nuclear after that if they wanted to catch the leader.
A string of short priced winners was joy to Madame Blum’s ears although Indypacer did show sone Arctic Arrogance ($7.70) in the seventh. Hooper came into the day with an outside shot of winning but at least he will still have sone Cocktail Memories ($7.00) to keep him warm in the winter . Cherokee Scot remained Hopeful with two races to go but 40-1 shot Western Ghent finished Forte lengths behind. With one race left the only horse that could beat Madame Blum was 50-1 shot Missing Link but his jockey decided to jump off when he saw the tote board and Cupid’s Heart ensured that the trophy would be heating to Colonie, New York.
Congratulations Colleen on a tremendous job of handicapping.
