Thank you for doing this. Gee it sounds tough. I hope his kids (someone referenced them), are doing what they can. I have no idea how his relationship with them is. I recently lost a friend to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and a few of us had a phone contact thru a sister which was helpful and gave us a chance to have a little party with him just 10 days before he passed.

Dell and I have tried…. no answer….
I had also reached out to the niece who gave me the last information on where he was with no response ….
I have decided to try and reach out to his sons … have to use Social Media and hope they read the messages and then respond….

Does Gene have a condition that's getting in the way. He asked me about MS once. I could offer some advice but we don't have the same condition if that's the case. We just share symptoms. If he has MS the nerves in his spinal cord are losing the coating on his spinal nerves. In my case I have a short in the longest nerve in my spinal track so my legs are 'confused'. That's one reason that I'm ziggy. I hope he gets the care he needs and can pull everything together. He is missed!

Ziggy, he does have MS. He mentioned in the telephone call we had that was something he is dealing with. I sent him a card noting that you're also going through a difficult time and that you asked about him. (mentioned among other things) On top of his brother passing,MS,Covid...and being in an assisted living environment I can only imagine the difficulties of his situation. (something anyone of us would have a tough time dealing with) I think the only thing we can do now, at this moment is send cards and letters wishing him well and letting him know your thinking about him. (and hope his situation gets better and he reaches out and phones or writes in return)

Talked MS many times with Spank. Trying to get him to an open minded MS neurologist.

Spanky called last night and wants me to let everyone know
that while he is unable to respond via computer,
he has been reading along on this thread and he told me
that it fills his heart to have so many people caring
about him and how he's doing.

He said the food sucks at the place he's staying.
He really loved the fruit arrangement he received.
Spanky has a few physical challenges which make it tough
for him to get out of bed. We spoke for 25 minutes
until he got tired and was ready for a nap.

Spanky said he couldn't remember his password,
so I told him to start a new account with a new password.
Hopefully, he'll be able to do that and we'll have him
back on the forum here at upinclass.

Gene tells great stories about growing up in Texas with his little brother.

I didn't have a brother so I don't know what that's like... but I've witnessed it.

There's a bond that exists between brothers... I saw it when I met Hooper's brother

at BC Santa Anita and then again at Saratoga.  Spanky & Lou certainly have that bond.

The love between brothers... it's powerful and amazing stuff.

Glad to hear that he's reaching out. Sorry that he's dealing with MS. There a lot more issues with that than with my condition. I hope Covid wasn't added into that. I do know that you get a bit less social when you're 'sick' daily. I couldn't deal with the angry politics and my progression so really cut back. Plus I wasn't locked into racing for a while. The small fields, short weeks in Md had me looking elsewhere. NY has never been great to me especially Belmont park. I was at GP with the worst case of seconditis and bad luck at the gate.

Keep your head up Spanky. You've got a lot of friends here. Vent if you need too!
