Sandown Park offers an evening race card featuring two GIIIs. Lord Glitters and Addeybb clash in the Brigadier Gerard, but neither is the favorite in the five horse field.
GOING: Good-to-Soft
SAN R2 (1:15pm EDT)- 5f National Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/54/sandown/2022-05-26/811214
#1- Crispy Cat (2-1) ships over from Ireland after getting nosed in a Listed event at the Curragh. #2- Democracy Dilemma (15-1) has progressed smoothly through three starts, breaking his maiden by almost four lengths last time in a big $$ maiden race at Chester, gets blinkers today.
EX- 1,2/1,2,3,5,8 Result: 8,1,5 Democracy Dilemma blasted away from the gate, but tired badly from his early efforts, while Crispy Cat sat just behind and took over inside the two furlong marker, but it was Maria Branwell ($7.60) which ran that one down late despite wandering from a straight line. Those two were well clear at the finish.
SAN R3 (1:50pm EDT)- 2m Henry II Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (4yo+)

2-miler featuring some of the better stayers not named Stradivarius and Trueshan. #2- Enemy (2-1) began his career in the Gosden yard, transferred to Francis-Henri Graffard for a stint in France as a miler, then was sold by Qatar Racing and ended up with Ian Williams. He shipped him to Dubai and stretched him out, where he ran respectably behind Lord Glitters and Manobo in two Group races. Distance was clearly the key as he made seasonal debut at 14F and took down a rich $$ heritage handicap at Musselburgh, then got headed and necked by Princess Zoe and Quickthorn in the two-mile Sagaro Stakes (GIII) at Ascot. #5- Quickthorn (7-2) re-opposes today, and really should be favored, but he still has to prove he can win at this distance, although he's superior at 14F. Looking to get either #1- Alounak (12-1) or #6- Rodrigo Diaz (10-1) home in second here at a price, both have run races that would be competitive here.
EX- 2,5/1,2,5,6,7 Result: 5,4,6 Quickthorn ($6.20) stayed wide away from the field in the early going, made the front while appearing to set a solid pace, and led every step while keeping challenges at bay, including Rodrigo Diaz which stayed on well but just couldn't get past Nate the Great. Enemy was always too far back and his run fell short.
SAN R4 (2:25pm EDT)- 1m2f Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (4yo+)

Unfortunately a short field of five go, but they make up for it in quality. I love the gray #1- Lord Glitters (15-1) but a tactical race with a small field does him no favors with his deep closer-style. He also carries a 5lb penalty for his GII win in Dubai. #2- Mostahdaf (1-1) is six-for-seven lifetime, three-for-three over this race course, and has a C&D win last month in the GIII Gordon Richards S. where he beat two overmatched foes. Carries a 3lb penalty for that win. #3- Addeybb (3-1) is back to his old self according to trainer Haggas, would prefer softer going but handles this ok, probably would be happy with a solid run to set him up for Royal Ascot. #4- Bay Bridge (5-2) is where I'll plant my flag. Highly progressive through six career starts, it could be fun to follow this horse as a 4yo. Trainer Stoute is heating up at the right time, Ryan Moore rides again, gets a few pounds from the top two. Hopefully Mostahdaf and Addeybb are overbet.
WIN- 4 Result: 4,2,3 Win $22.00 Addeybb set a moderate pace with Mostahdaf just off him all the way around, but entering the final two furlongs it was Bay Bridge ($4.40) which tipped out and roared past them like a locomotive in a very impressive five length win.
SAN R5 (3:00pm EDT)- 1m Whitsun Cup Handicap (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-95)

#1- Rebel Territory (7-2) has progressed nicely in his five turf tries, his wins at Goodwood and Newmarket are far better than anything else in this race, a win bet would be appropriate if the m/l price holds, but I doubt it will. Crowley taking the mount adds to the confidence on seasonal debut. #4- Farasi Lane (5-1) could be the upsetter if the top one doesn't fire, he likes the course, and is sitting on a win after his good second at Royal Windsor last time.
WIN- 1 EX- 1,4/1,2,4 Result: 1,5,8 Win $47.00 Ryan Moore seemed to set off too quickly on favored Inigo Jones, and indeed he came back to the field in the straight, with Rebel Territory ($9.40) cruising up strongly to the lead, then gamely fighting off veteran miler Ouzo which ran a cracker while dropping from Class 2 for the first time since 2019.
SAN R6 (3:35pm EDT)- 1m Handicap (Class 4) (3yo 0-80)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/54/sandown/2022-05-26/811216
Race lost some appeal when #7- Mizzen You scratched, but will try to make a modest score using #2- Sip and Smile (4-1) to win if the price stays above 2-1, and with that one on top in exactas with several that have shown ability but may have drawn poorly. #11- Codify (15-1) could be a nice Win/Place bet despite his maiden status, if he fires on seasonal debut.
WIN- 2 EX- 2/5,8,11,13 W/P- 11 Result: 5,10,2 Another race where you couldn't be too far from the front early, as Roxzoff ($20.20) continued his recent good form while moving up in class today. Sip 'n' Smile did well to close for third but moved way too late. Codify was near the back and never got involved.
Bet: $82.00 Returned: $69.00 Loss: $13.00
