Second Amendment. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I align with this interpretation. Legal discussion welcome. Hooper
Some scholars point to the prefatory language "a well regulated Militia" to argue that the Framers intended only to restrict Congress from legislating away a state's right to self-defense. Scholars call this theory "the collective rights theory." A collective rights theory of the Second Amendment asserts that citizens do not have an individual right to possess guns and that local, state, and federal legislative bodies therefore possess the authority to regulate firearms without implicating a constitutional right.

Crime has exploded in the last two years, fueled by violent, destructive “protests”, less policing, and relaxed bail regulations. Law -abiding citizens feel the need to be able to protect themselves, often by arming themselves. Until the current crime/legal system is under better control, citizens(go of and bad) will continue to arm(protect) themselves.
We all know that we can find “scholars” to interpret anything however we would like to see it.
Every violent death matters. Media skews these incidents to meet their agenda—-we see it often. African-American genocide daily is ignored to a distressing level as no longer newsworthy. Children in major cities are caught in crossfire and murdered weekly, and you seldom read about organizational outrage or apprehensions. Don’t bury metro crime stats in with overall gun death stats—-it(like many statistics) can bE misleading to the real picture.

Occasionally guilty as charged, eye…….comes from decades of chess, sports wagering, and most importantly operating a fluid business with a couple hundred employees. Not to mention that we are all out to protect our families. I simply try to position everything where I can have best options available. Requires being aware of all plus and minus possibilities.
I do feel that I am advocating the most realistic common sense approach. Controlling firearms at this time is a tough one…..the barn door has been open far too long——criminals have incredibly easy access to weapons(far more access than tHe legal way). Control violent criminals first and foremost. Make the public feel safe again. Eliminates the perceived need for armed self-protection. In our current environment , law-abiding citizens are not going to give up their protective weapons, and government is a long way from trying to legislate taking them away imo.
I honestly thought that I was simplifying the situation lol….

I still think a good start is to just outlaw bullets! Think of the savings! the cost of a bullet vs. an assault weapon! Only meant in jest of course but we have to think outside the box or senseless slaughters will not stop.

Just about every mass murder of children in schools in the past 10 years or so were committed by young males under the age of 21. In almost every situation there were tagged with the, or believed to have had, a mental disorder. This is the place to start, not with the sporting goods or gun store.

I own a chrome .38 snub nose pistol. I have never had any desire to hunt or shoot any animal. My best friend buys and sells guns and buys a stamp yearly to do so. The FBI has visited him twice to make sure his guns,stamps,paperwork,etc... are legit. In short, we are the Ying and Yang on weapons. Mental health issues seems to me the place to start. He paid 32k for an anti-aircraft machine gun that has a tripod and shoots 50 caliber bullets. 30k for a Thompson automatic...
My point is, should guys like my friend have the right to own such a collection of military weapons?

He does, indeed, have a right to own them. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Scalpels and bandages don't save people's lives, doctors save people's lives.

example 1 of our screwed up political system. Neither side wants to make any real change because both sides (pro or anti gun) can drum up lots of interest/money by talking about it. If you actually fix the problem the money goes away...

example 1 of our screwed up political system. Neither side wants to make any real change because both sides (pro or anti gun) can drum up lots of interest/money by talking about it. If you actually fix the problem the money goes away... That is an easy fix. Publically funded elections with private donations being illegal. Taking private money out of elections would do a world of good. It would even the playing field among potential candidates and would also increase voter engagement. Almost 100% certain it will never happen.

just now in OK, a prior unarmed criminal stole an officer's weapon and shot three people before killing himself. In Texas, armed police squad didn't enter a school with a lone armed person, and physically restrained parents from arming and entering the school while their children were slaughtered. In Buffalo, a market employee called 911 to plead for help while that shooting was in progress. The 911 dispatcher hung up on them and did not report the call. Why? ?? This is beyond politicians... at least those defunding proper law enforcement Blame firearms for all of this--I think that I will keep mine closer than before---do as you choose while insanity and crime mushrooms....

An assault-style weapon found at the scene of Wednesday's deadly shooting in an Oklahoma medical building had been bought that day, according to three federal sources briefed on the investigation.
