I understand they wager on these games... ever placed a bet on Jai Alai?

Went a few times to Newport Jai Alai in the 70's and 80's. Closed about 20 years ago after a player strike. Turned the building into a casino and race book and that is now closed. Probably a similar story around the country.

Racquetball was all the rage @ college in the early 80s. Jai Alai has a larger court. Somewhat similar game, though.
Win Place Show: they use our lingo.

Been there many a time. Back in the 70's it was Hialeah,Calder, during the day...Miami Jai Alai at night. The place back then was packed, fun to watch and wager on, when the pools then were large. Sad to see the state of Jai Alai as well as dog racing over the years.

In the fifties they showed Jai Alai from a fonton (cage) on TV Saturday nights in Miami. We always watched it because with only 3 stations to choose from it was that or John Cameron Swayze and his ticking watch.

I attended Jai alai, twice in the 1970s in Florida. It was kinda cool and I thought the competitors were amazing in what they could do-essentially climbing a wall on the run to get the ball (is it called a ball?)
