I wanted to share with everyone this article about John Ortiz, Barber Road's trainer. This is a truly nice group of people, and he understands horses AND people. The little things, like the ego-less choice of logo which doesn't include his initials or name, but a broader philosophy of teamwork; and the fact that he pays his help well, etc. One of the reasons I was hoping for a muddy track because I think Barber Road could run in the superfecta or super high five in slop. He's such a *HARD TRYER* all the time. I just want to see the universe start rewarding the good hard working people in racing instead of baffert-like ones. Baffert, who was not supposed to be in the KY Derby, although all they did was take down the sign with his name on it, the horses he trained are still in the same stalls, eating the same feed, getting the same meds. What a true embarassment for U.S. racing because of "pretending" he was banned from the race. Anyway, let me know what you think of this article on John Ortiz, which isn't a highly read magazine. I find it very hard not to admire him and his crew: trainermagazine.com/north-american-trainer-articles/john-alexander-ortiz-barber-road/2022/2/17

Which horses in this year’s Derby can we consider ‘Baffert’ horses?
Thanks.

Which horses in this year’s Derby can we consider ‘Baffert’ horses? Thanks. Baffert horses were transferred to Tim Yakteen and Sean McCarthy at SA back at the beginning of April while Baffert serves out his 90 day suspension. I think one horse also went to Brisset (Blackadder) in KY. My understanding is that 91 days from Monday April 4th, Baffert can hang his sign on the barn again. The ones in the KY Derby that you asked about are Messier and Taiba. Yakteen also got the oaks filly, Adare Manor, as well as Doppelganger and McLaren Vale. (Peanut gallery: The Oaks and Derby ones appear to be somewhat chalky based on what I read people are wagering on. )
