Better with age... happy birthday weekend, Mr. Williams! Thanks Dell! NAV R4 (10:41am EDT)- 5½f Committed Stakes (Listed Race) (3yo) www.racingpost.com/racecards/193/navan/2022-04-23/810574I like #1- Cadamosto (3-1) the best of the Aidan O'Brien threesome. Ran very close to Perfect Power at Royal Ascot in a GII, then wasn't embarassed in Curragh GII before heading to the shelf. Expect him to return running today. #6- Straight Answer (9-5) won first two races in style before fading in 7F Dewhurst when last seen. Juddmonte runner seems the one to beat. #8- Red Lacewing (10-1) was progressive in three starts last year, was second in 3yo debut, and filly could be a wildcard here with Jamie Spencer coming over to ride. EX- 1,6/1,4,5,6,8 Result: 5,6,1 New York City ($16.60), the least fancied of the O'Brien trio, disputed the lead, drew clear, and held off Straight Answer and Cadamosto.NAV R5 (11:15am EDT)- 1m2f Salsabil Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies) (3yo) www.racingpost.com/racecards/193/navan/2022-04-23/810575 #1- Concert Hall (2-1) is one of four progressive 2yo fillies returning to action today, might be the best suited for 10F. #8- Tranquil Lady (3-1) goes for O'Brien the Younger, daughter of Australia could drift up in price. EX- 1,8/1,2,3,8 Result: 1,2,3 Exacta $28.60 Concert Hall ($5.20) tracked the leaders, had to wait for a gap at the furlong pole, then was all out to hold off Magical Lagoon for the win.NAV R6 (11:46am EDT)- 1m6f Vintage Crop Stakes (Listed Race) (4yo+) www.racingpost.com/racecards/193/navan/2022-04-23/810576I feel that #8- Search for A Song (2-1) lays over this group, 6yo mare has maintained a high level of form for several years now, runs well when fresh, seems to enjoy the longer distances now. EX- 8/1,2,3 Result: 6,8,1 O'Brien only needed one as Kyprios ($12.20) clearly appreciated the added distance today, making a pretty good field look ordinary. Watch this one going forward. {note: Aidan O'Brien won five of the eight races on the card.}Also some solid handicaps at UK- Haydock Park and UK- Ripon: www.racingpost.com/racecards/23/haydock/2022-04-23HAY R3 (9:05am EDT)- Don't like many of the higher-weighted horses, think that #9- Silver Samurai (7-1) can score despite the class rise. EXBOX- 8,9,12 Result: 8,11,7 Boardman ($5.00) sat off the pace, had to wait for a gap, then stormed home to an impressive win, but my other two were never involved at the finish.HAY R6 (10:45am EDT)- #9- Kingmania (4-1) was progressive last season, daughter of Kingman gets weight, can continue her improving form today. EX- 3,9/2,3,7,9 Result: 8,10,5 Total misread on my part as my four were no part of the money. Excel Power ($32.80) was a good looking winner under Hollie Doyle. www.racingpost.com/racecards/49/ripon/2022-04-23RIP R2 (9:20am EDT)- I really think #2- Garden Oasis (10-1) is live in this heat, 7yo was never better last season, loves this track and can fire fresh. EX- 2,5/1,2,4,5,7 Result: 1,7,5 Garden Oasis showed little, fading badly at the end. Hortzadar ($7.60), the highweight, won fairly easily despite the jockey dropping his whip. RIP R3 (9:55am EDT)- #1- Rajinsky (5-1) is an old favorite of mine, class of the field doesn't need or necessarily want to win this minor event, but the conditions fit like a glove. #6- Ravenscraig Castle (4-1) was an up-and-coming force last year, taken to continue his improvement today. EX- 1,6/1,4,6 Result: 1,2,6 Rajinsky ($6.60) won the 2M handicap for the second year running, but Ravenscraig Castle could not hold on to second at the finish.RIP R4 (10:28am EDT)- It was hard to project a solid favorite in here, so going with #6- Bollin Joan (10-1) at a price. 7yo mare loves the course, can fire when fresh, Tim Easterby may have a very good day across the UK by sundown. WIN- 6 Result: 2,6,5 Bollin Joan (17-1 longest shot in the field) made a bold run inside the two, drew even at the furlong pole but could never get by co-favorite State of Bliss ($6.20). That would have put me in the black for the day.RP R5 (11:00am EDT)- Going with the two progressive highweights at short prices, not much chance for any kind of score in this. EX- 1,2/1,2,4,6 Result: 6,7,1 #1- Nomadic Empire (6-1) had a very tough trip, bothered at the start, then idled behind while waiting for room, got clear late but there wasn't enough race left. Definitely a bet back. Ava Go Joe ($10.40) sat at the rear of the field and closed relentlessly for the victory. Wagered: $99.00 Returned: $28.60 Loss: $70.40TW
