Feature race is the Blue Riband Trial (Listed) which can be an early prep for the 12F Epsom Derby here in June.
EPS R1 (8:50am EDT)- 5f Indigenous Handicap (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-90)

Competitive field with no particular standout. #1- Nelson Gay (10-1) makes his 4yo debut, has only one turf win in thirteen tries, but is usually there or thereabouts, gets seven-pound bug boy up and yard is going well. #5- Mokaatil (10-1) is two-for-three at Epsom, and his handicap mark is way down after tailing off in the second half of last season. Won the 5F 'Dash' here last year, and handling Epsom's track is something horses either do or don't. Makes third start of the year already, and Harry Davies aboard gives him 7lbs as well. #7- Thegreatestshowman (15-1) is an outsider, but I can't shake the feeling that this horse is going to run well second time back, returning to turf. Ran a few races last year that would put him right in the thick of this. #10- Electric Love (5-1) is a 4yo filly with a sparkling overall record (8/2-3-1). Ran well in two Racing League starts last year, gets in very light and might make some noise given a fast pace up front.
EXBOX- 1,5,7,10 Result: 5,7,11 Exacta $215.20 They were flying up front and Mokaatil ($11.60) was able to slide up the stands-side rail, with Nelson Gay in tow. Thegreatestshowman did run very well and held for second after disputing the pace throughout. Nice start to the card.
EPS R2 (9:20am EDT)- 1m2f Blue Riband Trial (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo)

Putting my faith in Godolphin/Appleby/Buick and #4- Nahanni (5-2) which won seasonal turf debut at Leicester by nine lengths going 12F. Turns back in distance today, and strangely the son of Frankel has no big-race entries going forward, as if they are still trying to figure him out. I'll probably get bit, but I'm not using #3- Mighty Ulysses (9-2) for second, trying to get a better priced horse in there. Gosden yard has been fairly quiet so far. Had to use A. O'Brien's #7- United Nations (2-1) for second, but hoping he is just stretching his legs toady.
TRI- 4/1,2,5,7/All Result: 4,1,8 Triple $101.80 Sweated out the finish but Nahanni ($5.40) put his recency and stamina to good use and held off the cavalry. Grand Alliance did well to grab second, hard by the rail, holding off Mighty Ulysses, which seemed to tire late, and United Nations, which was going best of all at the line.

#2- Achelois (5-2) was mostly progressive in her 3yo season, ran well in a Listed event when last seen. Balding yard is in good form, she should give a good account. #7- Arenas Del Tiempo (6-1) has a win and a second over C&D, improved over the second half of last year and continued her good form on the AW in 2022. Holly Doyle is aboard and they seem to get on well.
EX- 2,7/1,2,5,6,7 Result: 1,2,3 Achelois was travelling well and took the lead in mid-stretch, but Soto Sizzler ($9.00) which really likes it here (5/3-2-0) ran her down late under a patient ride from Ryan Moore.
EPS R4 (10:30am EDT)- 1m4f Great Metropolitan Handicap (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-95)

#1- Alfred Boucher (10-1) ran very well the first half of last year, including over this course. Draws the rail, could surprise. #3- Going Gone (4-1) was mostly progressive on turf last year, with a big win over C&D in September, and then a similar big victory at Newmarket when last seen. Could be one to follow this year.
EX- 1,3/1,3,4,6,7 Result: 3,7,4 Exacta $179.00 Going Gone ($7.80) was tough as nails, making all the running and holding off several different challengers all the way to the finish. Mascat also ran a very gritty race, holding second at a huge price (25-1).
Best day of wagering I've had since the early Carnival races in Dubai. Wouldn't have predicted it at the start of the day, but records say I've done pretty well at Epsom, perhaps due to the propensity for horses to like/strongly dislike the course.
Wagered: $80.00 Returned: $496.00 Profit: $416.00
