Undefeated 2yo Champion Native Trail returns to action in the Craven Stakes (GIII), a prep for the 2000 Guineas on April 30th.

NEW R2 (8:50am EDT)- 6f (Row) Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-100)

It was tough to throw out very many in here. #6- System (12-1) scratched from Tuesday's 7F Nell Gwyn Stakes (GIII) and runs at 6F instead. Had a C&D Listed win last year, beating Cachet and Desert Dreamer. Draws the stands-side rail, but Hannon is off and running now so don't get caught out. #13- Pocket the Profit (9-2) has won five of his last six starts, including his 3yo debut at Pontefract last week in a much improved performance. He has to answer questions about good ground suiting him, but Ryan Moore takes the call. Spread-exacta with high failure probability, hoping for a scratch or two.

NEW R3 (9:25am EDT)- 1m (Row) Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 3) (3yo)

Not a betting affair for me, but this event for unraced 3yos often produces some fine, later developing horses. Peter Brant has one with the Gosdens, out of Dubawi. Michael Stoute has one for The Queen. There are also two by Sea The Stars, and Godolphin has two, a Dubawi and a Shamardal. Loaded race.
NEW R4 (10:00am EDT)- 6f (Row) Abernant Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Two 3yos take on their elders. #6- Double Or Bubble (6-1) is a 5yo mare with a Listed win last season and two GIII-placings. Drops back to 6F and wants good ground, runs well fresh. Bet to win at m/l or better. #7- Ebro River (9-5) is one of the 3yo colts, he had a stellar 2yo campaign capped by a victory in the GI Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. All his wins are on soft ground, but he's been close on good going, so maybe I'm just 'picking gnat shit out of pepper', to quote Senator Long (Walter Matthau) in "JFK".

NEW R5 (10:35am EDT)- 1m (Row) Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-04-13/807467
Not going to try to beat #5- Native Trail (1-2). Hoping to get #3- Hoo Ya Mal (10-1) home in second and maybe another outsider in third.

NEW R7 (11:45am EDT)- 1m (Row) Handicap (Class 4) (3yo 0-85)

#1- Tylos (5-1) looks like a standout to me, so I must be missing something. Had two seconds on turf, behind GI- winner Albahr and Weatherbys winner Harrow, then broke his maiden on the AW over Withering, which ran very well at Meydan this winter. Away from the races since August, but James Doyle takes the mount, so I'm on board. #2- Outgate (12-1) had a fairly progressive 2yo season, with a good second here over 7F when last seen. I'll try to beat some of the more fancied types with those two on top.
