As George Costanza would say: "Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell ya I gotta plead ignorance."

DRF. A New Jersey racing official said on Tuesday that stewards are in possession of several photographs that clearly show the device in Mejia’s hand.

Maybe the motto of that school is "if you can't beat 'em, buzz 'em". Most tracks still weigh out the riders. If someone there used a handheld metal detector on the riders, wouldn't it stop this permanently?

But they didn’t DQ the horse ? 🤷♂️ BloodHorse. The stewards did not disqualify Strongerthanuknow or revise the order of finish. In their ruling, they only cited Mejia for possession of the device—their evidence centered on photographs taken of Mejia in the winner's circle after the race—not the use of it. By his possession of the device on Monmouth Park grounds, Mejia was found to be in violation of NJRC rules N.J.A.C. 13:70-14.5 (a) (d) (e) and N.J.A.C. 13:70-1.15. Chart. STRONGERTHANUKNOW raced off the pace inside, moved up on the turn, angled out entering the stretch, rallied outside, closed willingly in deep stretch and surged for the win.

The following quote came from the Monmouth Parks own website after Mejia won aboard a 158-1 shot on Sept. 26th, 2020
Andrez Conquist, a 158-1 shot ridden by Meija, returned the biggest win price in Monmouth Park’s 75-year history when he paid $319.80 in a shockingly-easy four-length victory that erased a 69-year-old mark.
lol...shockingly easy four length win....just sayin'

More buzzer news. Paulick Report.
Samuel “Sammy” Mendez, currently the leading Quarter Horse jockey at the Indiana Grand meet in Shelbyville, Ind., has been summarily suspended and is awaiting a hearing before the track's board of stewards.
A ruling dated Sept. 15 said Mendez is “hereby summarily suspended for actions not in the best interest of racing and which compromise the integrity of operations at a racetrack.” The ruling said the infraction occurred on Sept. 4, when Mendez won with three of nine starts – all for trainer Randy M. Smith – including the $84,200 Bob Woodward Memorial Classic Stakes and the $108,591 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby.
Multiple sources told the Paulick Report that Mendez is being investigated in connection with discovery of an illegal electrical device.
