If it's DelMar AND IT'S THE FIRSE DAY OF THE MEET THE RACE-OF-THE-DAY HAS IT'S BE THE OCEANSIDE. Whatmakessammyrun is the obvious favorite - In his last two races he picked up a new rider named Prat, and he also won both of those races somewhat easily. If I'm betting to win he's my choice. But if I'm looking for a horse for the the DelMar contest, I'm taking 8/1 Harbored Memories. He's had 5 career races and never finished lower that 2nd. Three of those race were on the grass and last two were wins. Caveats - he's never faced this quality of competition before and his rider is weak. They will have a slight edge in that the horse is one of the two top speedsters in the race but he's coming out of the one-hole and will save all the ground. I'll pick him to Place
I have to mention the other speedster, 20/1 Brutto, that's had only 3 career races and broke his maiden last out. He is trained by Bob Baffert. With the high quality of riders to choose from I was surprised to find h chose a 10% winning jock, but then found that <Me Mr. Gonzalez is winning at a 20% rate on speed types. (JKY w/E types 195 20% 47% -0.42) He will be one of the top choices for the contest players but I doubt he'll go off that high. If I thought he off over 10/1, I would take him.

$100 WIN #5- Petruchio
Broke his maiden here last fall, showed some class on dirt in GII at LRC while never threatening the winner. AW flop on 3yo debut put an end to any Derby dreams they had. Back to turf at best distance, just missed behind the promising Sword Zorro in Listed Singletary S. at SA. Can't fathom why the M/L oddsmaker would have him at 12-1, but I'll take all I can get.
