Sunday we'll see the 93rd edition of the Oscars. Since we have a coupler of actors in our stable (Mr. Yount and Mr. Hauk) I'm hoping they could help a brother out with some predictions. I'm hoping my book comes up with some wagering options so just in case...any winners in any category would be helpful. I've not seen any movies in a theatre since The Dark Knight! Any info would be appreciated!

I’d rather have root canal surgery than have to watch Nomadland again. The critics loved it so no doubt this load of shit will scoop up a shitload of awards !

Best Actor / Best Actress Double Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Viola Davis (Ma Rainey's).
I'm all-in on The Father. Editing creates a brilliant,
albeit painfully uncomfortable sense of the sense of
losing one's senses... one's mind... one's grip. What?
Best Picture: The Father.
Amazing work of film making art.
Movie won't win, but it gets my vote.

I actually went to my local theatre in Ocala last week to see Citizen Kane on the big screen. Amazing to think that this masterpiece did not win Best Picture and dross like Nomadland will. Look at the classic competition Citizen Kane was up against in 1941 :
How Green Was My Valley The Maltese Falcon Sergeant York Suspicion The Little Foxes.

Always thought theses films should have won in their respective years. Raging Bull The Pianist Goodfellas
Forgot The Piano but I could probably mention 10 more.

Agree 100% and I would add Saving Private Ryan to that list - does anyone even remember much about Shakespeare in Love (more entertaining than Nomadland certainly but Best Picture - seriously 🙄)

As regards The Piano , I will have to watch that one again but no movie was beating Schindler’s List that year.

Chariots of Fire was a joke. Seems like there have been few comidies win but the last Western was what? Unforgiven?

I'm not saying it was the best winner ever and I know critics didn't seem fond of it, but I enjoyed the film. When I saw it in the theater, I had read nothing about it, had no particular expectations (in those days I saw almost everything that came to town), and I was very pleasantly surprised. It also resonated strongly with those in the theater.

Well. The ending of the awards didn’t go as planned, obviously, as they had moved Best Actor to last, normally the home of Best Picture. See that, they DON’T know who’s going to win after all. Congratulations to Sir Anthony Hopkins for his second win. Perhaps he’s heard by now, as he did not “attend” the ceremonies. As for the unexpected chaos at the end, the best take on it was probably:
“Soderbergh should’ve taken things to their logical conclusion and played the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” music over the credits...”

I slept through most of it. Speaking of Pacino, I think one of his best performances was in Heat. The Scent of a Woman was good as well. But the Godfather was amazing.

The Father If there is an actor in this world better than Anthony Hopkins... I don't know who it might be. Exquisite.
