Flat season is here! Ireland was first last weekend, now it's time for turf racing in GB. Doncaster has the first 2yo race of the season followed by the Doncaster Mile (Listed), the Spring Mile, the Lincoln Heritage Handicap, and the Cammidge Trophy (Listed). The AW Championships are on Good Friday, April 2nd, and Kempton runs two Stakes and a handicap tomorrow on the runup. With Meydan running concurrently tomorrow, I'll be having a very busy four hours between 8:50am and 12:50pm.
KEM R2- 1m2f Magnolia Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+) AW
#1- Faylaq (2-1) was last seen finishing behind #2- Global Giant (4-5) at Newbury in July. Gelded since then, he needs to return running but does own a win over the course, and his main rival just ran a dud in the Saudi Cup. Hoping that #3- Sky Defender (8-1) can find the bottom of the exacta to boost the payout.
EX- 1/2,3
DON R2- 1m (Str) Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (4yo+) Turf
#5- Montatham (9-2) is a terrific miler (6/3-2-1) which has fired fresh in each of his first two seasons. Haggas/Doyle at the controls for the late Hamdan Al Maktoum. #11- Bounce the Blues (3-1) was highly progressive as a 3yo filly, looks to build on her two stakes placings last September including a third in a GIII here.
EX- 5,11/1,4,5,7,11
KEM R3- 1m3f Rosebery Handicap (London Middle Distance Series Qualifier) (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105) AW
#2- United Front (8-1) is hitting on all cylinders right now, stretches out a furlong today but should be right there for crafty Mick Appleby. #7- Master the Stars (8-1) was a progressive 3yo, ran third in a prep for this over the course earlier in the month.
EX- 2,7/1,2,4,5,7
DON R3- 1m (Str) Spring Mile Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+) Turf
22 horses running on a straight mile course, yeah baby! I'll try a titanic swing at a four-horse exacta box with #6- Overwrite (15-1), #8- Dawaaleeb (15-1), #10- Queen's Sargent (10-1), and #15- Amaysmont (12-1) which I favor most off his recent AW form.
EXBOX- 6,8,10,15
KEM R4- 6f Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105) AW
#5- May Sonic (5-2) is a horse for the course (6/3-1-0) and returned here with a facile win last month against similar. Mayson is rapidly becoming one of my favorite lesser-known sires.
EX- 5/2,3,4
DON R4- 1m (Str) Lincoln (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (4yo+) Turf
22 horses running on a straight mile course, yeah baby! #7- Haqeeqy (4-1) may vie for favoritism with #15- Eastern World (7-2) for Godolphin/Charlie Appleby, but I'll take the former based on his solid 7F win here last September. Leaving out Eastern World, hunting for prices instead. #8- Brunch (15-1), #10- Grove Ferry (15-1), #13- Danyah (12-1), and #16- Ouzo (20-1) all have some merits. I especially like Danyah's progressive 3yo form and will bet him separately.
EXBOX- 7,8,10,13,16 W/P- 13
DON R5- 6f Cammidge Trophy Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+) Turf
#8- Summerghand (5-1) has slowly rounded into form on the AW this winter, is a 6F specialist and ran three races last term that would take this down. #11- Just Frank (6-1) is a 3yo taking on elders but gets a lot of weight, was progressive in five 2yo starts, ran second over this C&D when last spotted. Tall order but speed is speed.
