Thrill of the Day was watching that longshot Carlos L. go gate to wire at 1-1/2 miles as longest shot on the board 47-1. I loved it, I love those super long routes and I wish we had more 12F races in the U.S. And he broke a track record doing it! I could watch that over and over again.
For the Rebel, if you just chose the lowest weights, that was the superfecta. All of the 117 lbs ones. Paid well.
Jockey on Caddo River should have let him out. OP is a speedy track at 1-1/16th, this wasn't a 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 mile race. I bet Cox is not happy with that ride, this wasn't the time to try to teach the horse to rate......he wanted to go go go and was overly restrained IMHO. At OP at this distance, you pretty much have to go go go.
Whitmore with 2 bar shoes on both feet, he's getting long in the tooth. I have enjoyed him immensely over the years, but may be time to stop racing soon at age 7? He's so delightful in every way and trainer has done a great job keeping him together. Actually all the horses in that race were not youngsters though.
Stakes Days and Saturdays aren't good for me at OP. I have records on my favorite longshot trainers in the everyday races and do well with them, but horrible on the big days with the big name shippers and jockeys. I like to stick with the small OP colony that "I know". I go over every race at end of the day so I've got a pretty good database of what does well there. In the middle of the meet I do poorly, but first month and last few weeks I do well. It's good to keep track of your "patterns" and what your best performance is and what exotics you do best on, etc.

oh that was best of the day........now for the worst of the day (besides the stranglehold ride on Caddo River) was watching the jockey hit Rated R Superstar in the Essex more than I think I've ever seen a jockey hit a horse. Close to worst I have ever seen, wince-inducing. And I really LIKE that horse. Vazquez was an up and coming at one point and now it seems to me like he's lost his grip. Im disgusted by what I saw.

Thanks for posting this replay, because there is nothing better than watching a horse like that, just galloping along, in his own universe, I doubt he "knew he was in a race" til his jockey was reminding him not to let the other horses by him at the end there. I bet on plainsman, but I wasn't disappointed in this outcome, I mean, how could ANYBODY be? LOL That was a beatiful fast gallop.
