Tom..WTF was the first thing that came to mind to me also. They say the winner was "just" following the loose horse, yet dq the horse forced by the winner from being able to complete the course. Makes you just want to shake your head.

Article said both horses have the same trainer, so there's no motivation for the jocks to push for a dq

Same trainer but different owners. There was already a stewards' inquiry, so didn't need jockeys to object. If I'm the owner of the DQ'd (left the course) horse, I was getting a check for either first or second from the looks of it approaching the final fence. Now, through no fault of my horse or jockey, I'm placed out of the money?! That wouldn't fly for me.

Stewards inquiry and they interview the jocks, right? Maybe I dont understand the process. The fouled horse (i totally agree there should be a dq) finished fifth. That check isn't coming for the owner. Its gone and there is nothing to defend for the owner. Now the 5th place jockey can whine and get the trainer a 4th and 5th, or say aw shucks and get a first and a fifth. If I'm the jockey and I want work, I'm doing all I can to let the results stand.

I look at this from the point of the punter. What now constitutes a foul. The winner clearly (and severely) interfered with another horse. If you had money on the horse forced to not complete, would you not feel wronged ? The excuse the winner was following the loose horse doesn't wash. The jocks job is to control his runner. Those that had second and third in that race must have also been just a little perturbed. Now, can a jock just cross an entire track following a loose horse with the excuse...well my horse had a mind of his own ?

Good point Matt, I wasn't thinking it through clearly. Owner should be unhappy but no money coming his way, regardless. Just one more way for us bettors to lose...lol. TW
