Velazquez just tweeted that he couldn’t get into the country because of a last minute change in their COVID rules. Rispoli did not make it either and nor embarrassingly did Saudi Cup ambassador and spokesperson Gary Stevens. 😳
William Buick picks up the mount on Tacitus while Mickael Barzalona will ride Max Player.

Trying to beat odds-on Channel Maker in R1. #10- Tilsit (9-2) is lightly raced with his most recent a good fourth behind Kameko and Regal Reality at Newmarket. Stretches out under Ryan Moore for Charlie Hills. #12- True Self (9-1) 8yo mare from crafty Willie Mullins won down under in September, probably wants more ground but has some class about her. Go Hollie Doyle!
EX- 10,12/2,7,8,10,11,12 Result: 12,2,3 Exacta- $52.80 Hollie Doyle with a solid off-the-pace ride on True Self ($14.60) wears down Channel Maker nearing the wire.

R2- #9- Space Blues (4-5) is the clear cut standout on form and distance, only fly in the ointment is his poor performance in Dubai last March. If he can be beaten, let's try #3- Glorious Journey (6-1) which has good form and wasn't fully cranked for the Al Fahidi Fort (GII) last time. That could be a key race as second place D'Bai came back to win GII in Meydan on Thursday. #5- Land Of Legends (9-2) won the Fort, is certainly in with a chance.
EX- 3,9/2,3,5,7,8,9,10 Results: 9,2,10 Exacta $15.60 Space Blues ($3.00) was much the best indeed, but had to work hard to get there over last year's winner Dark Power and Frankie Dettori. Won the battle but lost money on the wager.

R3- #1- Call The Wind (2-1) won this race last year, will enjoy some cut in the ground (it rains in Saudi Arabia?!). Freddie Head/Olivier Peslier complete this classy team. #3- Secret Advisor (9-2) has been away since June, but runs well when fresh, likes the distance. Godolphin/Appleby/Buick at the controls of this 7yo son of Dubawi. If #2- Prince of Arran (4-1) beats me, I'll be okay with it, as that guy won't have many more chances at the top level. Frankie aboard today for Charlie Fellowes, probably destined to a minor award. #12- Making Miracles (31-1) seems to have really found good form since the summer, very well bred, big price.
EX- 1,3/1,2,3,6,8,12 W/P- 12 Result: 9,8,3 Gifts of Gold ($93.40) picked the right day to put it all together for Godolphin and Saeed bin Suroor. Nice run from Spanish Mission to grab second for Team Valor.

Saudi Derby
#2 Cowen - last 5 races ran 4 seconds and a third. Appears to be the kind that needs to see a horse or horses in front of him to feel confortable. I'll pass Soft Whisper on top - Cowen would be a good choice for place

R6- I think that #2- Cowan (9-2) will be overbet. He looks like a closing turf sprinter to me, and doesn't fare well going longer or on dirt. Change my mind. #5- Meshakel (8-1) blitzed out to the lead in the UAE 2000 Guineas and just got nipped at the wire, will be a handful if speed is holding. #8- Rebel's Romance (3-1) is a progressive son of Dubawi which skipped the Guineas and came directly to this race. Thinking that they really want to win the UAE Derby next time, so maybe not cranked for a full-out effort today. #11- Hatm (15-1) seems best of the local hopes, Wiggy Ramos is already having a good day. #13- Soft Whisper (2-1) has been slowly progressive throughout her six career starts, and couldn't have been more impressive in winning the UAE 1000 Guineas by seven geared-down lengths. I feel that this daughter of Dubawi could really be a special horse, we'll see what she does for Big Money Mike today. Interested in his opinion afterwards.
EX- 5,13/5,8,11,13 Result: 7,2,6 Japan goes turf-to-dirt, sprint-to-route as Pink Kamehameha (30-1) completely reserves his form. Joel Rosario took off the winner to ride Cowan when that mount became available, oops. Cowan would have won that with a better start, I was completely wrong on his chances. Asmussen knows a thing or two...lol. Soft Whisper sat second but didn't offer anything into the stretch, very disappointing. Too close to the hot pace, or not good enough?

Late to the game No interest in wagering in the House of Saud
imo COWAN is strictly a sprinter with no shot whatsoever Don’t like TACITUS either—-his head never seems to be focused throughout
Good luck

Riyadh Sprint.
The M/L fav, Matera 52/2, does not look like a 5/2 horse in this field. In the 2019 BCSprint, he was competitive for 2 calls then shut down. He's not a long shot but I see hom as a 7/2 at best.#1
Brad The Brief 15/1 is my long shot in here after winning a G3 in France then went to the farm for a rest Harry's Bar 12/1 is coming off a 3 race win stretch but will be running against better than those lST 3 RACES. I'm waivering on #5 Justin (5 for 8 in 2019) who just won a G3 last out at Nakayama but that mighht be a lower class track as He's 3/2-1-0 there. Will be putting those under #9 Oxted 7/2 - multiple graded winner

R7- Dirt Sprint with a few trying dirt for the first time. Big field, so trying a shotgun box.
EXBOX- 1,2,5,13 Result: 2,6,3 Really liked a few of the Japan-based horses, don't know how I left Matera Sky out of the exacta box ($130 mistake).

R8- Saudi Cup $20M: Pure price play, hoping one or both of the speedy Americans runs out of the exacta.
EXBOX- 3,4,8,10,11 (4-5, 20-1, 8-5, 67-1, 42-1) Result: 11,3,7 Exacta $139.20 Mishriff ($41.60) was a GI winner in France as a 3yo, had every right to improve after only eight career starts, especially under the tutelage of John Gosden. Proved his dirt ability with a second in last year's Saudi Derby over the course. Great ride by David Egan (21yo), he actually broke on top ahead of the two American front-runners. Hoped that one or both of the speeds would capitulate, glad that it worked out. Charlatan ran lights out in defeat, no shame in that narrow loss. Great day of racing this way.
$2Exacta- $139.20 $1Triple- $2,438.30 (99-1 shot was third)

That's another horse I talked myself off of due to what appeared to be a jockey's choice. Assumed Dettori had his choice of the Gosdens and didn't understand him on the 6. Oh, well.

Seems a little harsh. Looked a length or two clear when he veered.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith has been suspended two days next Friday and Saturday after he was judged by Saudi Arabian stewards to have caused interference shortly after the start of the $20 million Saudi Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
