R2- 1m6f (Listed Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-110)
#4- Dubai Future (4-1) looks best of the bin Suroor Godolphins (4). Good record over the surface, should be better for his runner-up finish against international-good-thing Walton Street last time. Stretches out to stayer's distance with Frankie doing the steering. #5- Ghostwatch (5-2) won the Melrose at this distance as a 3yo, missed all of 2019, then returned and ran in-and-out last season running good numbers but didn't close the deal. Buick aboard the best Appleby Godolphin (3) again, wondering if the horse might not need a race but if he's back to form he's the best animal in the field.
EX- 4,5/2,4,5,6,9,10
R3- 1m UAE 2000 Guineas (Group 3) (Dirt) (3yo)
Taking a small shot with #2- Meshakel (3-1) which jumped up with a big performance first time over this surface.
WIN- 2
R4- 1m Firebreak Stakes (Group 3) (Dirt) (3yo+)
Not a clue with some of these, but #1- Hypothetical (16-1) ran a good one first time over the course, then ran a distant fourth in the Jebel Ali Mile. Looking for a rebound today.
W/P- 1
R5- 7f Meydan Classic Trial (Conditions) (Turf) (3yo)
Hard to go past filly #8- Last Sunset (9-5) in here, although turf might not be her best surface. Two nice AW races (debut win, Novice second), then two ok grass tries to end the 2yo campaign. Finished a good second to super-filly Soft Whisper in first dirt effort, and that one pummeled the UAE Guineas field by seven geared-down lengths two weeks ago. Not sure if they are just trying to get away from that one, or exploring their options for the rest of the Carnival, but 7F on turf is certainly within her current scope. Just seems a cautious approach.
EX- 8/2,5,6,7
R6- 6f Dubai Sprint (Listed Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-110)
Meydan has a very nice turf sprint program, and the spacing of the races allows shuttling back and forth between 5F-6F, and 6F-7F, if desired. The two big prizes are the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint (GIII, 6F) on Super Saturday, and the $2M Al Quoz Sprint (GI, 6F) three weeks later on the Dubai World Cup card. #1- Ekhtiyaar (5-2) has finished second in the Nad Al Sheba the last two years, but didn't go on to the big one in 2020. Had a 5F prep for this, but I'm not sure he'll be fully cranked today with future goals in mind, and he may be slowing down a bit as a 7yo. Also giving away an awful lot of weight. #3- Could Be King (10-1) is interesting. If this race was at 7F, he'd be the selection. Consistent sort may not get there in time, but he'll be closing late. #5- Final Song (6-1) has been an underachiever overall, despite an excellent fourth to Love in last year's 1000 Guineas. 6F is probably too sharp for her, but Frankie rides today so not dismissing her completely. #8- Kilfrush Memories (15-1) comes up slow on numbers, but had a fine 2020 season and prepped at 5F for this two weeks ago. Can't shake the feeling he's going to run big today. #9- Man of Promise (5-1) is the wild card in this heat. Ran third behind freaky-good 2yo Mum's Tipple and subsequent Jersey S. (GI)-winner Molatham on debut, then broke his maiden and finished second in only 3yo starts. If he's finally on his game, he could be a good one. KEE sales graduate, Into Mischief out of a Speightstown mare.
EX- 3,9/1,3,5,8,9
Best longshots:
R2- #9- Chouain (20-1)
