When you finally realize the dynasty is over. CBS sending Tom McCarthy and Jay Feely to do the Patriots home game Sunday.

Now you know what Lions fans like myself have endured over the years. At times makes me wish for Heywood Hale Broun.

Unfortunately, I do not. Anything prior to The NFL Today on CBS my memory fades. There are some announcers that stick with you, like Larry Osterman who announced the Tigers games with George Kell. Then in the mid to late 70's when I was working in television, I had the opportunity to meet some of the ABC Sports announcers. (Jim McKay, Keith Jennings and Dave Diles)

Then in the mid to late 70's when I was working in television, I had the opportunity to meet some of the ABC Sports announcers. (Jim McKay, Keith Jennings and Dave Diles) Larry Osterman was a Kalamazoo guy and I used to love his radio calls of the Western Michigan University Broncos basketball games (before he got the Tigers job). In fact I think he married John Fetzer's (the owner of the Tigers) daughter. Loved George Kell, who at one time shared the radio with Ernie Harwell before exclusively moving to TV. McKay was fantastic and Dave Diles is a guy I had forgotten about (channel 7 in Detroit, I think). Van Patrick did Notre Dame football on Saturdays and the Lions on Sundays (and at one time Tigers baseball before Ernie Harwell). I think each team had their own announcers up till maybe 1963 or 1964? I know Ray Scott was the Green Bay Packers announcer (he later joined the network team for CBS) and maybe Chuck Thompson? was the Colts announcer. I'll bet you have some great memories and interesting stories to tell about your work.
