It's the Blue Rays vs. the Dodgers...like many events in 2020 it seems to me it's taken forever to get here! But Game 1 is hours away. Many contests out there to win cash by predicting results. I'm going with Tampa Bay in 6 games. All games played in Jerry's Place in Arlington. That's weird right there. Fake fans. Weird. New rules in effect. Weird. But here we go....I'll start with the Rays +1' runs.

Who remembers the King and his Court? This is about 30 minutes long but is an amazing story with amazing footage worth watching. Perhaps someone from UIC has seen Eddie and could share the experience?

Eddie was amazing. Pitching from 2nd tase, with a blindfold etc. Sure he was past his prime when I saw him, but still very entertaining. Will watch the video later but I assume it shares more than what I could.

I had the Over in Game 1. Yesterday, with a profit boost promo I got the Rays +400 to win the Series. I kind of planned to wait til Game 2 to take the Rays as I didn’t trust Glasnow in Game 1. Morton v Bueller should be a nice matchup tomorrow.

I agree gam...I had the Rays last night so I'm 1-2 wagering on the WS. Tomorrow I plan to take the 1' runs and the Rays. Looking forward to 162 games in 2021!

No bets here just a baseball fan. Game 1 took 3:24 and Game 2 took 3:40 which is about 1 hour more than I can invest.

Last week was the 60th anniversary of Bill Mazeroski's walk off HR (I imagine the term hadn't been coined yet at that time) in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 at old Forbes Field giving the Pirates a 4-3 WS win over the Yankees. The final score of Game 7 was 10-9. I knew all that, but what I didn't know until a comment made last week was that the winning homerun was hit around 3:39 p.m. Game started at 1:00. 19 runs and the game was played in about two-and-a-half hours. Don't know how they fix this, but they need to get both regular season and post-season game times down. If baseball could get down to what a typical NHL game lasts, it'd help their ratings immensely IMO. With that said, it's looking like a potentially very good to great series. I expect 6 or 7 games.

Yesterday I bought more Rays to win the series which with a 25% boost was priced at 4.5/1. With the Rays comeback win, the odds have dropped on the Dodgers and I can probably lock in breakeven or a profit. Will have to sit down and do some math later on and figure out how I want to play it.

Gam- I have been advocating for years that the most sensible way to reduce game time is to cut the time between pitches, no time called for the batter to readjust his batting glove 3 times (Hawk Harrelson didn't know what he was bringing on when he introduced a batting glove, lo so may years ago). similarly the pitcher should not be able to fidget around so much. This does not reduce any game action nor does it reduce any commercials (sigh), which will never happen.

There is something very sad about excitedly tuning in at 8pm to watch something I'll never make it to end of.
Yes, the batters need to stay in the box and pitchers need to stay....start with minors and college and spring training. Flashing 50 signs with a runner on second and cameras everywhere doesn't help either. The catcher and pitcher should communincate electronically with wristbands. I'm not kidding. Baseball knows the problem and yet:
"Baseball is once again slower than it has ever been at any point in history. Even without spectators in attendance, the average nine-inning game is lasting 3 hours, 7 minutes. That's two minutes longer than the record-setting 2019 season and seven minutes longer than 2018." (WSJ)

4:10 last night and I didn't see the end. 2:30-3:00 is the sweet spot for my maximum game length.

ESPN says game time was 3:30. I know it ended before the Cardinals-Seahawks game. I’m a night owl so I can stay up. Still taxes your attention span.
Good game where the Rays squandered too many chances. Dodgers continue to score a majority of their runs with two outs. Kind of same situation as last year, I’ll add some more on Rays and hope they can win with Snell and force a Game 7. I am currently protected on a Dodgers win and (relatively speaking) have a nice profit if Rays can pull it out.

Oops, didn’t realize Saturday went that long. That’s way too long for a 9-inning game, even in the WS. Crazy game, though.

Probably not going to get lucky with this strategy two years in a row, but bought some more Rays series at +563. If the Rays can force Game 7, I should be able to hedge off on Dodgers and lock in a profit (or simply ride the Rays).

I bet the Rays +1' runs. Had to lay $47 to win $25. Bummer to lose 3-1. Overall, had a profitable MLB season but glad it's over!

Another manager that loses his mind during the World Series. Hard to justify pulling Snell when they did, but even if there is a defense for that I don't know how you put in the guy that had given up at least a run in his prior 6 appearances - when you have a 1-0 lead!!! The Rays pride themselves on having a versatile bullpen with many guys that can pitch the high-leverage situations and you turn to the guy who was great in the regular season but struggling all post-season. Idiotic.

Couldn't agree more. Have to give Snell a minimum of 100 pitches last night. Pulled after 73,2 hits and 9 strikeouts. Long winter for Tampa fans. Analytic geeks ruined the sport.

I don't know what was more stupid, taking the ball from Snell or giving it to Anderson. Maybe he thought, "he's given up a run in six straight games, the odds suggest it cannot extend to seven." I understand analytics, but they have to be tempered by what's unfolding on the field.

Who remembers the King and his Court? This is about 30 minutes long but is an amazing story with amazing footage worth watching. Perhaps someone from UIC has seen Eddie and could share the experience? Very cool!! I remember when my brother and I watched local softball games as kids in upstate NY. We had the thrill of seeing King and his court a few times in the early 60's. We were under 10 yrs old at the time. Absolutely AWESOME describes just how good they were. Any of the local teams got trounced by The King. Thanks for the memory!

Thanks for the reply! In the early 60's as a kid, my brother and I used to go watch the local fastpitch games at a nice field closeby. My Dad was on a team and they had a co-worker that was an amazing pitcher. Large man and nothing in the King's space but won with a fastball and curveball few could hit. Great memory of hot summer nights watching Dad play and rushing up to the snack truck to buy snow cones or ice cream. Great memories in a time so different then now days.
