While it's handy to get a stable mail on a horse that bears watching, can that have too much influence its next time out,and other contenders in the race get down graded by default. If the reminder weren't received would the handicapping be different?

I know what you mean. Sometimes when you see a horse do something in a race they become automatic bets next time. There are 3 scenarios for that next race.
1) Everyone saw the same thing you saw and the horse is 4/5 in its next start.
2) The horse’s connections see what you saw and raise the horse up to a spot where it can’t win.
3) Nobody else notices and you get to make lots of coin on the betback. These are the situations that we trip handicappers live for.
The great thing about watching races and replays is that it can be so subjective. Occasionally you will see something that no one else sees and that can lead to some nice profits. Takes discipline not to fall for those horses in 1 & 2 above though.

Good points LM,another thing is being too focused on the runner who is a stable mailer, and disregarding the other horses in the race somewhat because of that.Have to be aware of any possible bias in the selection process.
