Thanks for the reminder. I've enjoyed this FREE contest for years....it's a must for me as Remington is the only track that I bet besides some few spot plays elsewhere. Whether it's thoroughbreds as here of QH's in the spring, I somehow do well there. gl to you. My nom de plume in the contest is silvercoin.

Thanks Bev. It's been nice to own some PM's this year, but I'm not doing as well as the precious metals. It's been a long hot summer that started with my mom passing. All my sibs are up north or out in Texas, so I'm the only one here, with some help from my son as he can(he lives near you, in Gainesville). The task of sorting through the home of one's Mom is not easy. I'm sure many of you have been through this, my thoughts are with you. I'm aiming to early November to wrap this up and start the road back to normal. In the meantime, it can't hurt to have some fun doing this Thoro-enduro contest at RP.
Ive been having an enjoyable time watching Jack and Dell battling it out in the top tier of the leaderboard. Unfortunately, I've been watching from the cheaper seats, currently about $100 out of any money position, back in 68th place. I do have 4 horseshoes, so I guess I can afford to make a few more aggressive plays and try to make up some ground. With about 1200 to 1300 players active on any contest day, this has proven to be an extremely competitive contest.
From my perspective, it has been very difficult to improve my position and, unfortunately, very easy to lose a lot of ground all at once.
I had been moving up in the standings and had gotten as high as 35th or so and had also been close to contention for most winners. All of that hit the wall about two weeks ago and I've been backsliding ever since. Now sitting below 100th and need to turn it around in a hurry.
As Jack pointed out the top 9 get $$ prizes, and I had been only about $75 out of that range for a while. That deficit has now grown to around $120 and my time to make a move is starting to run out. It is still possible, but there may be a few Hail Mary's involved.
Dell and Jack, hang in there and keep plugging away. It would be great to see a UIC player sitting among the leaders when this marathon finally ends on December 20.
The contest is now in the phase in which players who run out of horseshoes get permanently eliminated. Those who go "into the barn" now can't come out again. The number of Active Players gets smaller each day [down to 1113 when I last looked]. That shouldn't affect end game strategies, since almost everyone in contention has lots of lives left for the stretch run.
Remington postponed both its Monday and Tuesday cards this week until Dec 21 and 22 and their contest site quaintly referred to those contest days as "abandoned". It's not clear whether the contest will still end on Dec 20 per the rules or whether it will be extended to coincide with the end of their racing season. I'd been hoping to make a late run up the standings, but even as the number of active players diminishes my place in the standings keeps going the wrong way. It's be doing that for the past month and I can't seem to do anything to change it. I'll be back in the pack watching the leaders fight it out. Jack, I hope that you are having more success than I have had.
December 20 was originally to be the final day of both the Remington meeting and this contest. I noticed this morning that the rules have recently been revised and two more days have been added to the contest to make up for the cancellations of early last week. Just a heads up for anyone who is still competing.
