The first college basketball game I ever saw was at Alumni Hall on the campus of Providence College, early '60's, thanks to my uncle who was a college referee. On that NIT championship team were John and future Boston Mayor Ray Flynn. That little kid couldn't believe how tall he was compared to most of the others on the floor. Couldn't take my eyes off of him. Saw him a few times in person after that, for the Boston Celtics backing up Bill Russell and when he brought his Hoyas to the Providence Civic Center as a coach. He would visit PC now and then,I think the last time was when they retired his number about 5 years ago. Kind and thoughtful for those that knew the man. RIP

Baily Howell. Talk about a blast from the past. Celtics were my favorite team since I was a kid. Sam Jones was great. As was KC Jones. What did John die from?
