Following the very well supported Royal Ascot contest run by CherokeeScot, I'll run an Irish Derby contest to continue generating interest in European racing in the forum. Select a horse for each race for both days of the meet. Each day will have a daily winner, and also a grand total winner for the highest accumulated bankroll over the two days. Bankroll will be based on US returns of $2 win, $2 place (note, they pay first three in Ireland). Daily winners will receive a $10 win bet on the Belmont Park July 4th card (Suburban, Manhattan, Met Mile) or the Epsom Derby/Oaks card in GB, also on the Fourth of July. Grand total winner gets a $30 Otis Special wager (you bet, we split) on either of those cards. Post your selections in the appropriate thread in the Handicapping Contest section. Non-runners go to the post-time favorite.
I'll link here to the entries when they are available (Thursday), and also to PPs for those interested in handicapping the races. Good luck and thanks for following along!

In the mean time, you can get a feel for Irish racing, and look at the potential fields before final declarations at irishracing.com Click on any horse name for complete information about that runner. Click on any race to see the full results chart and information. Same for trainer and jockey. There is also a handy "going" filter in the blue box at top left. Click on that and you can sort runners based on the day's expected course condition.

Tom , can you send Cruzan a message to tell him that Ireland is five hours ahead of us. I suggest you use that homing pigeon you just found.

I think Cruzan lives in Texas so that would mean that Ireland is at least a good half century ahead.
I would have said a whole century ahead but we are talking about Ireland!

They do the entries a bit differently over there. At forty-eight hours before the races, you must declare whether you intend to run. You can still scratch on race day for certain reasons. This allows trainers to shop around, looking for the best spot to run, especially in the handicaps which make up a majority of their racing.

5 hours ahead today. But that might change with a few pints of Guinness Friday night.

Fair enough but two counties in Texas are not on Central Time and that’s why I was asking.
