Not my strength. Prefer craft IPA's. But started doing a taste test yesterday because why not. Ordered 12 packs of Miller High Life,Budweiser and Rolling Rock to start. 1st up is Miller. Cold is the best characteristic so far........but it is only 7:30.

Why not?
1) Because Bud can make you hurt the next day.
2) because you are not a teenager
3) because you know better
4) because cheap german canner beer isn't much more $ and tastes better. Thinking warsteiner or even dab.
But I do wish you luck and if forced I would probably try a miller lite.

Worst beer and the only one I refuse to drink is Papst Blue Ribbon; and the beer I miss most is Schlitz. It wasn't my favorite but was one of my top 3 going back to the 50's & 60's

They don't make Gobel any more do they, that was my favorite cheap beer back in the day, though Old Milwaukee was more popular.

Miller High Life was inoffensive. Served very cold, not much aroma or taste. No after taste. Probably best for cutting the grass during the summer or maybe a family cookout. 3 out of 5 in the right setting. Next up Rolling Rock this weekend.

I had a six pack of Iron City with the first Steelers' Super Bowl Champs on the can, but I drank it. I honestly can't remember what my impression was.
Hoop- I think you have it exactly right that Miller is best very cold and after mowing the lawn on a hot day.

If I’m been outside working in the garden on a hot day I have found that Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy hits the right spot.

I picked up a six pack last week, thinking my wife might like it, and I wound up drinking 3 of them while betting the Oaklawn card last Saturday. It was pretty refreshing. By the way Cherokee- I bought a fifth of Highland Park Dark Origins yesterday. I've liked other Highland Park drams, I'm looking forward to tasting.

Hoping it’s much better that the typical “cheap beer,” but I stopped at a distributor today and they had a nitro milk stout by Firestone Walker for $4.99 a six pack and $16.99 for a case. Grabbed a six. If I like it, maybe I’ll go back tomorrow and get a case.
Add: just checked Beer Advocate and the beer, Nitro Merlin, has a 91 score. 👍

Need an Iron City review from Gam. Never seen it New England. You mean an “Irrrre-unnnn.” Seems to me the consensus view in these parts is that the IC Light is more palatable. I try not to drink the Iron but it’s probably no worse than many other old school, lower cost lagers. I like good beers, but I’ll drink the cheap lagers often enough myself. A PBR can do ya good, ya know. That said, the Iron still has a cult following here. Not sure, but I think that a beer called Old German was made by Pittsburgh Brewing also back in the day and that stuff was nasty.

In fact, think the Iron City is brewed in the old brewery there. ( The old Pittsburgh Brewery was located near where Stephen Foster was born. About 2 miles from downtown heading up the Allegheny. See, it’s all related to horse racing). Think Rock got moved somewhere else. BTW, when I ended up in Pgh at Pitt Rock was then advertised as being brewed on the banks of the Loyalhanna River. Went to school with a guy from Latrobe and remember him saying if you saw the Loyalhanna you wouldn’t drink that stuff. On balance, back in the day, I’d take the Rock over the Iron 10 out of 10 times.

And for my Oklahoma brothers, I'm sure you know about the insult to beers...the 3.2 beer! Hey Bev, that beer you drink is lemon flavored?

pretty much a bourbon drinker these days....when I do go for a brew it's a lager...Miller High Life has been my go to since I was in high school...I agree with Hooper's assessment for sure...its best cold & when thirsty...plus back in the "hanging out in bars daze" it was the most comfortable bottle to hold I do also have fond memories of Schlitz. I also like my beer in cans rather than bottles... other than that I like Heineken & Stiegl pretty much too....there's a local brewery near my house called Dovetail ( dovetailbrewery.com/ )...they brew European lagers & pilsners...good growler place...and we've played their outdoor festivals in May & October the past three years... b.d.

Natty Boh comes to mind in Md though I don't think I ever drank one. Yuengling, America's oldest beer, was enjoyed here not long ago. Much improved from what I remember from the 70's. Now I'm into wheat beer, Blue Moon.

What do you guys consider cheap beers- price-wise, some of your selections are fine ones but I didn't consider them "cheap."

Cheap beer for me says college. Nowadays it would be less than $25 for a 30 pack. Most beers advertised during national or local sporting events.

But your first example was "the champagne of bottled beers." I kid, thanks for the definition. The beers I cited would be cheap minus I guess. Another one I just thought of is Falstaff.

Rolling Rock 2.5 out of 5. Didn't care for the taste, what taste there was. I'll have one if it is the only beer in your 'fridge. Slotted behind Miller High Life. Bud next up,been awhile. Close to 80 on Friday here, good taste test day.

Good idea Gam but at the moment I'm thinking of a Bud vs Narragansett challenge while overseeding the back yard. 'gansett goes in as the favorite as my the local beer back in the day.
A scene from Jaws. Narragansett in the starring role. Crush it.

Doc,never heard of that one. Remember in the early '70's buying Schmidts for $.89 a six pack in Lake George before heading to the track.

Might be time to throw Genny into the mix. There were a couple of years at Saratoga when Genny Cream Ale ruled the cooler. Maybe late '70s or early '80s. Will have to ask Rap and Duke.
