Seems like we should at least start a conversation about how this virus will affect sports world wide or nation wide. Any UIC members concerned about near empty stadiums or other adverse conditions due to this virus?

I did experience a slight sense of trepidation about working at the race track this weekend. Handling all that dirty paper money and interacting with horse players at my window gave me pause. I applied hand sanitizer throughout the day... I guess I'll have my answer in about 10-14 days. We'll see.

I saw maybe twenty or so people wearing masks on Big 'Cap Day. Nothing at all like what you see in Hong Kong... yet.

The Tokyo Olympics appears to be in jeopardy, and I could see it getting the point where events in the US are impacted.

Went to a Red Sox-Tigers spring training game last Wednesday and might attend the Sox game on Tuesday if I don't golf. Odds are in my favor!

What did Nostradamus have to say about this?

Starting March 23, Harvard will not have in-person classes for the remainder of the spring semester
amid fears of spreading the COVID-19 coronavirus, the university announced Tuesday.
Ivy League cancels basketball tournaments amid coronavirus concerns. The Ivy League canceled its men’s and women’s postseason basketball tournaments in response to concerns
about the coronavirus outbreak, the league announced Tuesday, becoming the first Division I conference to take that step.
Other Division I conferences have announced increased safety measure as March Madness ramps up;
some Division I conferences have already completed their postseason basketball tournaments
while many of the bigger events have yet to begin.

The situation in Italy is scary to me, with hospitals being overwhelmed and Drs having to triage patients, with some going without care. Since yesterday and with it already started as Dell notes above, I think a lot of events are going to be cancelled.

There was some talk that they might cancel March Madness totally. I can really see that happening too. Some schools cancel their participation and it screws up the whole apparatus. Some teams might have to play all their games while others might get a pass all the way to the final four. I'd hate to see them cancelled but I think it's best that they do.

What did Nostradumass have to say about this? "It's going to disappear. One day it's like a miracle, it will disappear."

Scares like this have happened before and the world is still here.... Reminds me of people running out for bread and milk because they predict a snow storm... I am not one of those people....

Broadway Shows will shut down for four to six weeks beginning tonight, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Cancellations of my PIANO & SONG performances are beginning to happen... my audience is most vulnerable.

Keeneland expected to have an announcement today... I have 6 great seats for Blue Grass day, 2nd row on the finish line. no reserved seats on sale on the website though the 15th. Guessing either running with no fans or pushing the start of the meet back. Not sure how painted into a corner they are with race dates by the state...

I'm not at all worried about the world not "still being here". Except that I know for some people, it won't be. Because they will not be here. As the proud owner of a tick related illness myself (a lifelong hiker who didn't always "spray down"), and a family member who barely survived getting H1N1 during that pandemic, after being hospitalized for over 30 days and came out with severe breathing problems for rest of life, I am just not one of those people who think "these things can't happen to me". I am a strong supporter of containment and taking the precautions suggested. That is the best path going forward, so that this doesn't drag on and on. Containing it is uncomfortable for us because it disrupts the life we are accustomed to. Without containment, this will still be here a year from now with unthinkable outcomes. So we need to get this over with until it leaves. I only bought 6 rolls of toilet paper. I'm not a panicker at all. Just one who is moderately cautious. I no longer go out hiking in vast wildernesses alone for instance. An *experienced* marathon runner friend who had been in track and field all his life did that in Colorado....and a non-predicted blizzard happened when he was out there, and he almost lost a few fingers to frostbite, and had to be rescued by helicopter. This can happen to the most adept and he admitted he wasn't being CAREFUL. So I am not one to ever give anyone any flak for being cautious. Even a tad over-cautious. It's up to them how they wish to practice their lifestyle. Money and entertainment is very secondary to health. Only people who have lost their good health can really understand what that means. Have fun and stay safe.
