The Soaring Softly R9 Belmont Saturday
Looks like a punters dream. The gimmicks should be healthy.
#1 March X Press – She was closing well in her last which was at 6Fs and if she had a little more distance (like Saturday) the race was hers. Gotta be a true contender here.
#2 Mentality 8/1 – In her first race as a 3yr old, and with no help up front, she closed to within less that a length from the winner. She will actually be stretching out to 7Fs here and I love this filly at 8/1.
#3 Nootky Sound 5/1 – Toss that race at Ascot and just look at her two races as a 3yr old on the turf – 2/1-1. She has every reason to improve in here. I would like more than than 5 /1 but still would consider putting her on top, She's another that looks like a lady in waiting” to win one.
#4 Mominou – 2 races this year – both on the grass & both board hits (win {maiden} & place). Even with those two nice races I didn't like it that she was losing ground by the time the winner crossed the wire and this race is a furlong longer. She could very well surprise me but right now I'm tagging her as gimmick fodder.
#5 Elevenses 8/1 She'll be trying grass for the first time but Jenkens is a solid 17% winners with first time on grass and Junior Alvarado is a 20% winner on grass. She's won 3 of 4 to date and 8/1 looks like a square price.
#6 Coffee Crush 12/1 – It certainly is not out of the realm of possibility that Coffee could pull a shocker in here. Her first start this year last month was her first in 6 months and with a little break and a shot of caffeine, she could do it.
#7 Strategic Dream 15/1 – She's won 4 of 6 to date but she's another with no grass experience and appears to have no significant grass breeding – but I didn't really look very far. Rodriguez is a great dirt trainer but as a turf trainer he's stone cold average – 10%. This might be a good one to toss.
R8 A French sire by a Japanese stallion, an Irish mare by a German stallion. Bred by a Frenchmen and they named her Africa 3/1. She's the ML favorite but in her two races in the USA she ran up the track in the Miss Grillo but did place her in last and would have won if the distance was 7Fs instead of 6Fs. She should be one of the favorites but not at 3/1. 4/1 maybe. Keep an eye on the tote.
R9 Brattata 4/1 – With 6 career races, all on grass and a record of 6/1-3-2, she deserves to be on a ticket. Uber trainer Chad Brown is currently winning at a 30% rate. Note that in all 6 races she was running faster of all at the end. Major threat here.
