Saw them a bunch of times including against the College All stars before the Generals became a full-time opponent. The "all stars" were usually a collection of fine college players close to the geographical area of the games, i.e. it changed depending upon where the games were played.
The first time I saw the Globetrotters was during the one year after Wilt Chamberlain left Kansas as a junior and before he was allowed to join the NBA. Besides Wilt, Meadowlark and Curly Neal were the two most memorable players. Great skills. It was often speculated whether either or both could have effectively competed in the NBA in their primes.

my idol----watched him once at Coney Island Moonlight Gardens dueling pianos with two Steinwayys facing each other--Oscar on one, Herbie Hancock on the other...

I LOVED the Generals Mr. Hendry! Five goofy white guys blundering around on the hardwood! What's not to like?
