Belmont Park, Santa Anita and Thistledown have something in common that no other US tracks have. What is it?
To make it more interesting, first person to post the correct answer here gets a $10 wager on opening day at Assiniboia Downs, Sunday, May 13.
i will post hints later if necessary.

This is a tough one. Taking a stab. Each track has only one finish line.(no alternates)

The grandstands face north (more or less.)
edit: Never mind, that's not it. I see Los Alamitos also faces north. Good trivia, Keith!

Ten Furlongs is the winner!
Thought this was a pretty obscure fact but it is hard to get anything past the UIC crowd.
Background - I was reading about when Aqueduct almost closed down in 2007 and the winter racing would be moved to Belmont Park. One of the arguments against moving was that Belmont faces north and that the shadows of the grandstand in the winter would cover the stretch. The article added that Santa Anita and Thistledown were the only other tracks to face north. Most everyone else faces east.
As for Los Alamitos I am assuming that at the time the article was written they weren’t hosting thoroughbreds.
In Canada both Fort Erie and Northlands Park face north. It is a major pain at Northlands because the track is only a 5/8 oval and they race in the evening so the view of the starts of 6 furlong races is directly into the sun setting in the west.
Tom you have a $10 wager on ASD opening day this Sunday. Entries come out tomorrow. Post your selections in this thread.

"should i be factoring this new found knowledge into my handicapping?" yes Tony.....during the later races when the sun is setting in the west, look for the horses wearing sunglasses turning into the backstretch Nice Tom, Keith..less reading .. more TV... (nice trivia)

Nice job Tom. I was going to retry with north last night, except I know that Lone Star and Los Al both face north, so I figured it had to be wrong.

Lone Star does indeed face north. I’m going to have to do some fact checking before any future questions. Don’t want to be accused of fake news.
