On the second day of Festivus my winning pick will be... Race 7 - Distinctive Flower trained by Ronald Potts, 6-1 will be good enough for me! See what I did there? Flower. Potts. Am I right?

That is really one screwed up website and contest. From what I can see, the site must have malfunctioned and crashed during or after the last contest race. Additionally, they credited me with the wrong race, which incidentally lost. The race I actually confirmed placed to a monster longshot. I've been trying to access that site for days without success. There's no way you can view the leader board. Makes you wonder how credible that contest site is.

Works fine for me.I just put my pick in for today.I must say I have not been following the leader board closely.First time I looked up my score I was on page 40 or so.Much to my surprise I'm on page two now.Currently 11th in the standings.

I survived today by the skin of my teeth. My pick showed and paid $3.40.Tomorrow they offer life lines.I could buy two for $10 each.I'm seriously considering buy two.My free one was used when my horse refused to run. I'm thinking if I have a wild card I can swing for the fence.I'll need a 30/1 or better to get in serious contention. What say you.

A couple of thoughts in response to your question Doc.
If you plan to buy the two lifelines, I think it would be advisable to do so before the races start tomorrow, especially if you plan to "let it fly" with some longer price horses. It might be useful to take a close look at the leaderboard and see how much you need to make up to get into either first or second place before making your final decision.
If you do buy the lifelines, seems very likely that you will get drawn into buying the final lifeline for $25 on Wednesday the 8th in order to play aggressively on the final three days. The lifeline seem designed to draw you in. This is not by accident.
My biggest complaint over this format is that while you can figure out from the scoreboard how many lifelines other players have used, you have no way of knowing how many they might have left. That is a function of how many lifelines were purchased, and the scoreboard doesn't reflect that. You need to assume that many other players on pages 1 and 2 will also be buying lifelines for the final push.
Congrats on a great performance so far. I did not buy any lifelines to start and, while still running clean, am back on page 6 of the standings, so don't see the point of making any investment.
Good luck which ever way you decide.

Thanks for the reply Jolly. After I read what you wrote I thought maybe I'll just play it out to the end.Now I just checked and come to find out I moved up a spot.I would't have thought that $3.40 would amount to much.In fact I thought I would have dropped off page two.Now I'm getting sucked in.I'm in the top 10 with no life lines left.I'm leaning. I bought two.I was checking my e-mails and had one from the contest site.It was a reminder that the livelines could be purchased today.Participants could purchase two for ten dollars each. The deadline was noon today.Seeing as I have to work this morning I would miss it if I didn't do it now.Now lets make this work

The top two leaders both were eliminated yesterday. The contest is much more wide open this morning than it was yesterday. I hope your decision pays off in a big way. Success to you.

maybe you should buy a bottle of jameson to go with those 2 lifelines as it seems they go hand in hand

Final day of the contest. Doc, it's great to see you still surviving and in striking position on page 1 of the standings. Good luck with your final selection. I'll be rooting for you from the cheap seats of page 2.
From my perspective, it is enough just to still be in the hunt on the final day, since my goal at the beginning was to try to make it through the entire survivor contest without buying any lifelines.

Thanks joly best of luck to you too.I broke down last week and bought two life lines. If I didn't I would not be playing today. My last two picks sucked big time.Today's pick most likely won't get me near the top two but maybe stay on the page.

HOLD YOUR HORSES, MISTER... are you not playing for the win? $1000 for 1st and $500 for 2nd. No money for finishing on page 1. You don't need the "bragging rights" - we all know you're a great player. Go for the cash! That's the way to be a confirmed champion. (jmo)
