First paragraph from Lisa Bucholtz about yesterday’s coverage.
I have been watching the Kentucky Derby for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of tucking in with my grandpa to watch the Run for the Roses. I am lucky that childhood me has no memory of NBC’s Derby coverage. Because it is godawful terrible dreck. I am noticeably dumber for having watched it. All of it. I did this all day. It was like a lobotomy without any medical interference.

NBC did one thing right. No satellite shot of the Derby horses looking like ants when they went up the backstretch. Not sure if that camera was on a wire or a drone or something else, but it was the backstretch pan shot all tracks should have.

Pro, that was a new camera that is akin to the angle often used in football. It was suspendeded by a wire over the track like it is over the field in football. There was some angst about using it but seems to have worked out well.
