serious rain and wind hit after Cocker. Hunkered down where I was under a large tarp. Storm screwed with the sound system, towers and stage. A lot of mud when it ended, + quite a few leaving. Only time that I ever caught Joe and the Fish live--good set:

not many even know that these guys were there. They were always good--very well arranged. I was lucky to see them @ Café Au Go Go in the Village on their first live show with David Clayton Thomas.

As daylight hit, and we could see the mud, trash and what was left of the crowd(80% were now gone), I moved up close for a long time favorite band: I am confident that most of you have seen the Love March in the movie---note the very young David Sanborn wailing away on sax

finally time for Jimi to take it all home. I was up front by this time, watching this beginning and thinking, "This is f'ing amazing--and everyone is gone. No one will ever hear this." Well--I was wrong about that part, and amazing doesn't do it justice. Jimi had a large band(for him), and introduced it all as Gypsy Sun and the Rainbows--soon to be shortened to the Band of Gypsies.

Jimi was amazing — the proper end to the weekend. I hadn't seen any of my cohorts since Saturday morning, and had no idea where we parked. Everything that I had taken with me was trashed somewhere, so I began following the crowd towards the highway home. Hitched a ride on a motorcycle(good move--we cruised between the lanes of cars) to Scranton, PA, where I had enough $$ left for a bus ticket to Dayton Ohio. Fell asleep on the bus, missed my connection and woke up in the middle of the night in the part of Baltimore described by NO POLITICS . It was bad and scary back then. After the last riots, I can imagine how it is now. Greyhound put me on another bus and I made it to Dayton. Hitched home from there to a pair of relieved parents. Started senior year of high school a couple of weeks later.

My wife was watching a PBS documentary on it all last night. Watched some with her--it was very accurate. A blend of every kind of person, no hostility from the surrounding citizens though they weren't happy. No left /! right or any similar mind set. No fighting and a lot of sharing—food, water and psychedelics. 4 days!! All held together by a bond of the generation and the incredible creativity and spirit of the music.
