5 Wide is the first to open his account in the 2019 contest but it’s bitter sweet as Annette’s Humor gets edged out by a nose in the third at Aqueduct

that is too funny because I looked at and thought seriously about Zippy Willy, too! Watched last two races and thought the races were not bad but Zippy did look like he might have something bothering him. Just could not pull the trigger on Willy...final analysis I just did not trust Pletcher after those two races...then the long break and now the drop in class. Will probably win by a mile today.

Zippy Willy the true gamble. Right, you get the purse and maybe pickup a sleeper Pletcher is trying to sneak by. Wrong, you still probably pick up the purse, gets claimed by x trainer, and ends running cheaper hoping to eek out a living. Truly the real gambling side of the business. ( maybe a real set of experienced eyes watching works or prior to race(visual) could sort it out) ...on paper, think we get a 50-50 proposition....

( maybe a real set of experienced eyes watching works or prior to race(visual) could sort it out) ...on paper, think we get a 50-50 proposition.... An interesting dilemma for handicappers. Pletcher has been very successful when he drops from MSW to MDCL off of a lengthy layoff. There is a small sample, but a high win and ITM percentage. The tough issue for me (like others, I thought long and hard about claiming Zippy Willy and almost pulled the trigger) would be where he is likely to run next. From what I've seen, horses that drop to MDCL and win generally don't return to the non-claiming ranks. They are more likely to be competitive in the claiming ranks in open company at roughly half the price at which they ran for MDCL. If I had to guess, Zippy will win today and be claimed, then return at the $12,500-15,000 level for his next start. I guess the part that bothered me the most was that Pletcher could have found a race with a higher claiming price if he really thought his horse had a good future. This has a little too much of the "for sale" scenario. It's a tough game, isn't it?
Having said all of that, I still hope you have found a sleeper, Mr H.

Nice win by Zippy Willy at Gulfstream for Mr. H's stable. Ran like a 1-5 shot should and won in good time.
Drawing Away Stable (Bobby Dibona, Trainer) was the successful claimant. I suspect that there were multiple claims.

The plus side is that Drawing Away claimed him. The trainer will place him where he belongs.(considering the deal they have with Drawing Away)

Great dialogue folks which is one of the reasons I started this contest. I agonized for a while over this. I’m sure the horse is not 100% solid but Pletcher horses like these are normally trained with a win and a claim in mind so decided to roll the dice to get some winnings on the board since TC beat me to my original pick !

Collins Ave 2019 STATISTICS* Starts Firsts Seconds Thirds Earnings 1 1 0 0 $20,400 Sorry Bev but at least I left Zippy Willy for you You should have claimed Collins Ave at the track...don't think there were any claims out of that race. A couple of quick questions: 1. Can we cancel a posted claim if the race in question still has not gone off? 2. Do we need to have exactly 3 claims? Or, can we have less or more than 3 claims if the total cost remains under $100,000?
