At least one bright spot emerged from the early races at Monmouth on Saturday. Guns of Steel won his first race of the year in race 2, increasing his earnings from $21,800 to $51,800, winning an optional claiming race for a claiming price of $16,000. I had originally claimed him for $30,000. I was very surprised to see Mike Smith in the irons.
On the other side of the coin, Mrs. Crews ran at Parx on July 15 and lost her rider coming out of the gate. She was awarded 8th place money of $250 for her non-effort.
WICKED TRICK hit the off side stall at the start then bumped with HOT MESA conceding two lengths to the front, chased six then five wide down the backstretch before tucking four wide through the turn coming under urging at the five-sixteenths, swung five wide for home rallying to take command just inside the three-sixteenths, then drew clear.

August was a $5,850 month for my faux stable in 3 starts. Blah. Have two runners entered in the next week, including Gotta Be Strong at Presque Isle against PA bred 3yo fillies in a 100k stakes. I've always wanted to see her sprinting on turf, but hopefully she'll run well on the synth and that will get her a turf sprint start.
Sandy Mischief - 8-2-1-1 $43,610 Gotta Be Strong - 9-4-2-1 $208,250 Cougar Country - 7-0-0-2 $7,340.
