Big summer mile Group 1 with 3yos facing elders. Haatem (British 2000 Guineas 2nd) and Metropolitan (French 2000 Guineas winner) face-off against Charyn, Inspiral, undefeated Quddwah, and comebacking Big Rock. Great race!

Current form for Big Rock is non-existent since he left his former yard, although his two runs this year were over good ground, and he is better over softer conditions. Inspiral has been similarly underwhelming, although she needed her first start of the year (Gosden said he had a tough winter for training, all his would need one.) Prince of Wales's's (GI) sixth well behind Auguste Rodin didn't flatter her either, have to wonder if this isn't a make-or-break race for her. Marhaba Ya Sanafi is a GIII-horse, wants soft anyways. King's Gold is a 7F soft-ground runner. Of the two 3yos entered, #8- Haatem (10-1) has superior form to Metropolitan, only finishing behind Rosallion (twice) and Notable Speech this year. Metropolitan would have to improve significantly to contend in here, and he appears to prefer soft going too.
That leaves #2- Quddwah (6-1) which is undefeated in four career starts, handles good ground, and has a GII win against older in his most recent mile at Ascot. It would be logical to expect him to continue improving today, but he has many lengths to find with #3- Charyn (4-1). Charyn was a decent 3yo, with thirds in the St. James Palace S. (GI) and Sussex S. (GI), but has been a revelation as a 4yo. Only blemish in his last four runs was a second behind a front-running Audience in the Lockinge S. (GI) at Newbury, and while that one was not to be caught that day Charyn was the only opponent to even get close. Perfectly progressive in four runs this year, likes good ground, has his age-group at equal-weights and gives the 3yos 7lbs. They are going to need it. Betting against an Inspiral rebound might turn a nice profit in this.
