GOING: GOOD TO FIRM (GoingStick: 7.7) (Watered) (Partly cloudy)
GOO R1 (8:50am ET)- 1m2f (1m1f197y) Kincsem Handicap (Class 2) (3yo) 10 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/871997
{Arabic Legend, Aviemore, Blake, Per Contra are non-runners.}
Wide-open handicap for 3yos. #6- Aragon Castle (7-1) was second in a mile handicap here two back, then made a big forward move when stretched out to 8.5F at Hamilton last time, winning by open lengths wire-to-wire. Loses Wm Buick today, picks up 6lbs, but he's never been better and 10F could bring out another improvement. #8- Sisyphean (6-1) won by five lengths going a mile against lesser at York following a wind operation, picks up 10lbs for that effort, but son of Dubawi just has to improve at 10F, right? Spread race.
EX- 6,8/4,5,6,8,9,11,12
GOO R2 (9:25am ET)- 6f Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (IRE Incentive Race) (Class 1) (2yo) 9 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/871996
Really liked #3- Billboard Star (7-1) first time through the PPs. Progressive gelding by Advertise (clever naming) made all the running to win second start at Newmarket, then was a good second behind Whistlejacket in the July S. (GII) there last time, finishing ahead of Aomori City, the Godolphin runner which won the Vintage S. (GII) here on Tuesday. Big chance. #7- The Strikin Viking (7-5) had a smashing debut win, then ran second in the Railway S. (GII) at the Curragh. Both of those efforts were over softer ground, so must handle the change to firm today. Purchased by Wathnan Racing last week from Middleham Park, and those guys love to race good ones so the price must have been sky high.
EX- 3,7/3,5,7,8,9 WIN- 3
GOO R3 (10:00am ET)- 1m4f (1m3f218y) Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo) 5 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/871995
Not much of a betting event, so a contrarian play boxing 3,4,5 to beat the likely O'Brien favorite could pay a little.
EXBOX- 3,4,5
GOO R4 (10:35am ET)- 1m2f (1m1f197y) Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+) 10 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/870558
This is a great race! #2- Emily Upjohn (8-5) hasn't won since Epsom last year, but just missed to Bluestocking last time when put back in against her own sex, drew wide in PP10 if you are looking for chinks in the armor. Gets blinkers today, so maybe they want her closer to the front in here. #8- Opera Singer (3-2) looks best of the 3yo fillies, fine second to Porta Fortuna in the Coronation S. (GI) at Ascot, daughter of Justify gets 8lbs from her elders, must negotiate ten furlongs for the first time. #10- Sparkling Plenty (7-1) ships in from France for Patrice Cotter with five wins in eight starts, all on soft or heavy ground. Full-sister to Noble Truth (Godolphin) has been progressive through six starts this term, winning the Prix De Diane S. (GI) when last seen. Every chance if she can handle the ground.

GOO R5 (11:10am ET)- 7f Nursery Handicap (Class 2) (2yo) 16 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/871998
{Defence Missile is a non-runner.}
#1- El Burhan (3-1) progressive Shadwell runner was an expensive purchase for the sire (New Bay), carries the highweight today but earned it. #5- Brighton Boy (5-1) would be my top pick but drew outside in PP16. Oisin Murphy will have to use all his skill to not get caught out on the turn, but horse looks like a typical Andrew Balding improver.
EX- 1,5/1,2,4,5,10,13
GOO R8 (12:55pm ET)- 1m Handicap (Class 3) (3yo 0-90) 15 runners
www.racingpost.com/racecards/21/goodwood/2024-08-01/872000
Five non-runners, all drawn very wide or AEs. Spread race if there ever was one. #1- Qiraat (7-1) progressive Juddmonte colt for Ralph Beckett gets Ryan Moore up again, drops from Class 2 but still encounters some good ones in here. Still has to prove himself over a mile, but lots to like. #8- Jungle Mac (7-1) was the one that caught my eye. Consistent gelding hits the crossbar a lot, but has progressed nicely this season, has the early foot to be involved from the start. Picks up 5lbs but maybe a mile is what he needs. #9- Treasure Time (15-1, who makes these m/l odds, that's ridiculous) has improved rapidly this year, just missing in Class 2 at Newmarket, picks up six pounds for that but Haggas has him rolling.
