That's the clip I had tried unsuccessfully to post. Chris is a friend of a good friend of mine.. That location is about 7 miles west of me. The tornado moved east from there on a line about 1.5 miles north of me. Scary stuff for sure. Winds of 125-135mph.

I went back over Mystik Dan's races.
I think McPeek did an excellent training job moving the horse forward. Does slow really matter IF you are moving a horse forward to "get the job done?" That's all you need if you are going to be the winner in that race.
Looking at all previous PPs on Mystik Dan, his running style changed a lot and McPeek trained him differently along the way with a goal in mind?
---He seems to have been more of a pace/presser as he was a designated E6 going into the Smarty Jones back in January, where he was not mentally prepared or used to pressure yet from the front and from behind and Just Steel gave him some problems and he had Leparoux aboard for that race. He seems like he had to slow down a bit encountering all that pace pressure.
---He was still an E6 entering the Feb Southwest Stakes where he seemed to start putting it together....some thought it was the wet track but it very well could have been the rail trip guidance by Hernandez. Which is what I thought.
---By the time he ran in the AR Derby he was a ++E/P 4. But he had to go wide in that one.
---Before the KY Derby he was designated as a P3.
So it looks like he turned into more into a closer/late pace horses with racing experience and that McPeek trained him to start doing better in the stretch run closing part of races. And his jockey Brian knew the horse well (which is why I like horses who stick with jockeys who know them) and was able to provide that guidance to the rail. Having not been able to do so in the AR Derby.
Problem with him may be that he does well when he is close to inside ..... If he has to go wide like he had to in AR Derby, he is not as effective. Something to keep I will keep in mind.
However, I sure don't mind saying that a trainer who trained with a specific goal in mind, and a jockey who was on the same page, and they both had a PLAN for this horse , to win the KY Derby, that tooks months and months of work.........and all anyone can talk about is speed his BSF and final race times.
This just doesn't make much sense to me. Getting the preferred result is what matters.

A "cap" kept an outbreak from happening in cental ar, so things were totally okay way before midnight. I felt sorry for those in AL , TN, and KY where it went to next though. And MI. This stuff happens everywhere though, if you are a weather events fan, this one below was a great video. (I saw it way before any of the news stations saw it, when the homeowner posted it on his page and then all the news orgs. started asking his permisdion to carry it) This is exactly what straight winds look like though. I was in a restaurant once watching tall metal light poles at a car dealership across the street literally bending over in the lot once when i got caught in a freak storm with 70+ MPH winds. Before cell phones. Watched stuff like this on my own property during the some straight wind events, whole lines of trees just keeling over in my woods: x.com/GR2AA2AZOGoBlue/status/1788055579396620784

deplorable? what happened to NEHRO was DEPLORABLE if i wanted to i could probably go back and show
the breeding problems you speak of (which have nothing to do with THE TRAINER) lead to more early equine deaths than any meds by themslves

maybe he is JUST that good a horseman mayb he gets his horses (they're usually boys) to perform to the best of their abilities isn't that what we want/expect? Since i am a put-the-horse-first person, all of that has to be weighed against "at what cost to the horse?" I am also more an advocate of the TB breed itself.. not the breeders. Baffert's record is deplorable in the put the horse first aspect, which is why he is having "reputation problems". My expectation is that Young Horses survive their training regimens, and also don't have shotened lifespans when they finally do leave racing as a result of their careers and/or over-the-top mating/shuttling duties. Justify's duties as a sire are already way over the top. Many opinions, mabe not good for gene pool, maybe we should put not breeding bleeders toward top, mabe breed for more durabilty, longevity, stamina, ect. Lots of diff opinions on all that. I am looking ahead, 20 to 30 years as to the fruits of our breeding program. Will we even have many races left at 1-1/4, 1-1/2, or will any horses be able to run again much after attempting such? What ever happened to this? Hes probably at 2x or 3x the suggestion www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/235617/the-jockey-club-exploring-book-size-limits

Haven't heard any KD entrant commit to the Preakness. The jock was hopeful for T O Password though. Both Japanese horses are headed back to Japan. I'm going to miss them being here. The level of training excellence exhibted, given their travel, qurantine, and unfamiliarity with the track, shined through like a high-tech robust flashlight. Much respect to the connections from me.

Very busy weekend for European racing, the highlight being the French 1000 & 2000 Guineas for 3yo fillies & 3yo colts at Longchamp on Sunday. I like the somewhat literal translation of the race names (Poule d'Essai des Pouliches & Poule d'Essai des Poulains), the 'Chicken Test for Fillies' & the 'Chicken Test for Foals'. Because it makes me smile. And picture chickens running at top speed... But I digress. SundayFR- LongchampGOING: Very Soft

I was watching interview with mcpeek and when he was saying horses don't need lasix, and seemed like he had to say it almost apologetically. Sad to see that, like the room goes quiet for a split second when that opinion is uttered. (Just like the early water, hay, oats signers had to almost hide in the shadows lest they be villanized by their fellow horsemen.)
Bleeders need lasix. Bleeders shouldnt be on the racetack though if all forms of conservative management has been applied, including time off for the mgmt and healing... and they are still chronic high level bleeders.
This is why the HK model works...not all horses are "meant" for a career in racing. Not sure why this concept is so hard to swallow in the U.S.
Forcing it is defying and denying what what is. Just like every tall person shouldnt be a basketball player.
