Still 40 days, with Mondays eliminated, so not "diluting the product." I like two dark days but that's starting too early, IMO. I know they won't cut days, but that would be my choice - start same time, but cut several Mondays.

Doc, not quite. NYRA is refuting the story because they haven't had the meeting yet. That's next week, where the article said it happened already. They made no comment on the potential 5 day race week and dates for Saratoga in 2019.

Looks like it's going through.Spa opens early and races five days (Mon,Tues dark) to allow for Belmont's renovation. No gain in actual days running just more weekends .Aqueduct picks it up after the Spa and runs until the New Belmont opens.Looks like a Belmont Stakes 2020 is in my future.lol

So this beckons the question for the UIC Saratoga crew.Makes no difference, like it,don't like it? I've seen where for those who will spend the season up there that will just add an additional expense (extra logging and incidental costs (ie Doc's beer budget blown out of the waters ) An extra week at Saratoga rent prices sure to add to the bite. As for the people of Saratoga.....money,money,MONEY..... .....and time moves on at Belmont. Grew up with all the space in the world to roam around at the track......relaxing on a bench under the numerous old trees, handicapping with form....(black fingers and all).....track still there (unlike Roosevelt Raceway).....but things change....they always do....

While the Spa will certainly always be "The August Place To Be", I had to change my party group analysis cover page to "The Summer Place To Be" quite a few years ago. The point made about the increased expense tied to adding another week is valid. After retiring last April I got a seasons pass for the first time in 2018 and actually spent 5 weekends up there between Saratoga and/or Lake George. I'm going to have to score big at the HPWS if I want to maintain that visitation pace going forward. I do agree that it is hard to get enough of the place.

Saratoga is a major grade one track ,so if expansion does not hurt their other areas of the horse racing communities, then , yes....and besides, perhaps the track could expand as being used to train the Saratoga sold horses from those sold at the auctions there....lol...

I really have no dog in this fight but is more money the only reason for this change? What will it be used for? How much more money will they get and how much of it, if any, will be used to improve the facility and/or increase the purses?
