The second annual UIC Tampa Bay Downs Handicapping Championship will have seven qualifying rounds that will produce seven players for the final table. The qualifiers will be held on the following Saturdays: Nov. 24th, Dec. 1st, Dec. 15th, Jan. 5th, Jan. 19th, Feb. 9th, and Feb. 23rd. The qualifiers will have various formats, to be determined. The winner of each qualifier advances to the final table. Only one spot per player in the finals (win and you're in). The prize pool will have $100 in seed money. Each finalist receives a twenty dollar wager, to be bet on any track/race before March 9th, in order to generate additional funds for the championship. Top two finishers at the final table will split the purse 75%//25%, in the form of PayPal funds or site credit. A trophy of undetermined origin and value will also be awarded. And probably a hat. Maybe other swag... The final table will be competing using the Tampa Bay Derby day card, March 9th, featuring five stakes races, including the Tampa Bay Derby (GII), Hillsborough Stakes (GIIT), and the Florida Oaks (GIIIT).
I'll post a thread on this contest forum during the week leading up to each qualifier. Last year we had a solid core group of 15 or so players, I'd like to see if we can double that this year. It costs nothing but your time, so give Tampa Bay Downs a look this season. Last year's champion will be back to defend his title, I'm sure: TW

Mr. Tenfurlongs, prior contests had a 12:00 final time to submit selections. Does that hold true for this contest.
Thanks, Ron

Just seeing this and would love to join in. Now if I could just find another Willie Martinez $123.20 winner at TB like I did during last years' HPWS? Thanks for your continued generosity here, Tom.

Hey guys the gentlemen giving us the opportunity to play in this contest wants to hear from us, hopefully with something beneficial. Let’s surprise them with our upset of the day and a little why we are picking this horse at Tampa.
I’ll start with the 4 horse in the 5th race (Takin it Easy) returns to turf where the horse has been successful looking for improvement with best speed figures on turf, in the money at the distance, jockey does well with EP style.

TAM 8th- #10- Beltway (8-1) looks sneaky interesting here. Drops down, turns back to dirt sprint, good local work. Morales named by Carrasco, excels at sprints, those two could have a good day.

i have my own little system i came up with. with that system i chose a longshot in the 7th black prong who was scratched. but in the nightcap i chose the 5 united song who hopefully will fulfill its potential and carry me to a victory. thank you for having this contest and good fortune to all.
