Do You Remember Your First Date?
Before there was such a thing as "Hooking Up" and "Friends with Benefits" there was this thing we called DATING... a fella would save up enough money
to take a girl out on a proper date... maybe to a movie or to a nice restaurant.
We would ask a young lady... set a time... pick her up and take her somewhere special.
We would dress in our nicest clothes and spend a lovely evening together... remember?
Last night I sang with my music partner at a place on Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. It was only Cucamonga back then... 41 years ago this month... I was 17 and she was sweet 16. I recall the wonderful anticipation I felt all day long awaiting the moment I would ring the doorbell, meet her parents, then walk to the car and open the car door for her. It was the Autumn Dance at school. Her name was Corina and I had such a crush on her. I thought she was the most beautiful girl at Fontana High.
We went out to dinner at the Magic Lamp Inn, where I ordered steak and lobster for the two of us... it was grand!
After dinner we went to the dance... sneaked out early and parked in a grape vineyard where we necked for an hour. Then when I brought her home I walked her to the front door where we shared a goodnight kiss... it was a 'magical' night!
The place was exactly the same and a flood of images seemed to carry me back in time... as I remembered my First Date. : )

I'll never forget my first date. Took her to an amusement park here called Wonderland...largest amusement park between Amarillo and Denver...huge Ferris wheel and we got stuck at the top because of a mechanical issue. So while it was being fixed it was her and I 30 feet above ground alone under the stars. Use your imagination! I wonder what ever happened to the halter top? They were all the rage for busty gals as I recall!

My first date was a blind date. One of my best friends set it up because she was his girl friends cousin who was visiting her from Arkansas. You learned quickly about "blind" dates and who your "real" friends are. Of course all your friends ask "What did she look like?" The best I could come up with is that she had "early American features". The demanded a clearer description. So I gave them one. She looked like a buffalo.

Took Teryl Carrillo for pizza at McGoo's on Hollywood Blvd., then to see Goldfinger at Grauman's Chinese. I attempted to impress her by racing my car over Beverly Glen Blvd. on the way home. It didn't work, scared her, and she never went out with me again. :-(

Teryl? Being on the left coast I have to ask Gooch...male or female?...lol...just kiddin' bro! I assume she was a nice Italian gal who loved pizza! They make a decent pie in Cali I suppose but Chicago and New York may not agree...lol...Good move on the Goldfinger flick...I'm a HUGE 007 fan. Sean will always be #1 James Bond for me although I think Daniel Craig is very close. Pierce Bronson and Roger Moore several steps below and the one movie that George fella did was...well, can't even remember his name. Some pretty well known gals who were Bond girls went on to major success. One of my prize possessions is a James Bond lunch box I got in 2nd grade. My bro Lou got a Munsters lunch pail which is pretty cool, too.

Spank, she was of Spanish descent. Her uncle was Leo Carrillo, who played Pancho on the Cisco Kid.
