After 64 contest days of 6 races each, the Emerald Downs online handicapping contest will come to a close this weekend. Truly not a sprint but a marathon. I find myself in 3rd place in the total wins part of the competition, with the prize in that category only for first. The leader has 128 wins, an average of exactly 1 out of 3 races.
Making up 6 wins in 18 races is going to be a tall order against such strong competition. I've been somewhere between 5 and 7 wins back for some time now, but unable to get any closer. Can't think of any particular strategy other than try to pick winners and hope for the best.
Finished at 287 but played longer shots mostly when I was at thirty something way back....lost many a placing by inches in many a race...lol...but if long shots are not played one will lose these type of contests...a good start is very important unless one seeks to win with total wins which is the easiest way to try and win a part of these contests...lol...in the Remington contest the same applies.....come to think of it , same at publichandicapper ....a couple of long shots puts one into the top 15 approx. for the contest season according to the rules .....good luck in the next contest try guy....
Thanks for the kind words of consolation, Michele. I tried all sorts of ways to make up ground on the wins category leader over the final couple of weeks, but just couldn't close the gap. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the winner.
