...the adventure continues.
With the close of Del Mar and opening of the thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos, there will be a good many horses to be hot walked. That is my new dream job.
Been introducing myself to folks and letting them know I am available to work. Meeting up at 3:30 am. to be signed in at the gate first thing in the morning...

Great photos. I remember very fondly my days as a hot walker at Narragansett Park. There will be horses you fall in love with and never forget. All the best! Hooper

Dell Santa Anita is also looking for wagering ambassadors for the fall meet. You would be a natural and it might be a good lead into the PR side of racing.

Good luck, but do stay away from the auto walker as a few got hit by lightning ....and woodbine is always looking for help in these areas ...lol...starting gate etc as well...jobs are always opening up...pay is so so but betting ones stable horses when they are ready are a great feature....lol...

Getting a booth and selling the pps as customers are entering the track is much better...or serving behind the food stands also allows watching the races and betting a few on the side etc...lol...and watching horses that are up and coming and getting to know a few trainers etc....lol..nice pictures...thanks....one question....is that trailer where you sleep when hired Lol

So, I had an opportunity to hot walk and give a bath
to a beautiful thoroughbred yesterday morning... GLORIOUS! No job offer yet... and I have learned 3 things:
the backstretch is a VERY tight knit community -
mostly Spanish speaking - and I'm not 35 years old anymore. (Working with horses is a physically tough job!)
I met Jay Cohen today and he made a call to Santa Anita Park on my behalf and I now have an opportunity to train for a mutuel clerk/customer service job. THANK YOU, JAY!!! :-)

Great...it is a good job....knew a person or two who did this work but got laid off due to down sizing at woodbine etc a few years ago....right after a strike I thinke it was....but it does allow one to move around to different tracks in between...and all are tight nit communities in the racing industry....that is why so many fights happened at the back of the barns / stable areas....which by the way ended up determining some races final results etc....lol...way back when....lol...course these days that does not happen...only in mafia crime movies etc lol

Spent Saturday training to be a mutuel teller at beautiful Santa Anita Park. Oh my goodness I love that race track! Returning today for a second day of training and then... Next weekend the track opens for business and I'll be the guy behind the window.
This position is an on call temporary job. I'm part of a pool of employees who will only work the big days at the track... like opening day weekend and other big race days... Santa Anita Derby, Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup, etc.
I'm learning a lot and it is very exciting to be on the other side after all these years. Also, I have applied to be a wagering ambassador... Maybe I'll be able to pick up a few more days at the racetrack introducing folks to the great sport of horse racing and handicapping.
As they say, it's a foot in the door and a way to earn a little money doing and being somewhere that I have loved my entire life. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to work my way into the job I really want to do... Being a jockey!!!

May God Bless you and all you do. I hope all of your dreams come true.
