I'm always on the lookout for cleverly named horses, based on the sire X dam or damsire combination. Not the Hoof Hearted type name (although my inner 6YO still snickers at that). If you see a good one, post it here!
In looking through the Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age sale catalogue, I came across this beauty:
Into Mischief X Queen's Court=
Surely You Jest
Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

There was a horse running against us in the first race at Delaware Park yesterday that caught my eye.. Nosy Ripples. Also in the opener at Parx yesterday we had the elegant No More Strippers !

Rather than the criss-cross references that lead to names I find the number of quotes from movies ending up as a runners name interesting. I have always fancied "BODACIOUS TATAS", the 1985 filly named after the quote in the 1982 move, "An Officer and a Gentleman".

Mike Pegram attempted to push the envelope in naming his horses Isitingood was one of the ones he was able to slip through. Remember watching the horse run at Keeneland with him and Kurt Becker pronouncing clearly as I Sit In Good and Pegram laughing, “that ain’t how you say his name!”

Always liked the " thunder " named horses...or horses like the names of seasonal horses...like way back a horse named winter cottage or something with colour that defines a seasonal aspect...or a horse like leaving London etc

My favorite EFFINEX
in one article Cohen states
And what about that name, anyway? Cohen said that while Effinex could refer to a certain person in his life, it also happens to be the name of a German financial consulting firm. Cohen's understanding of the word is that it translates to ‘integrity' or ‘efficiency,' which is how he explained his choice to the Jockey Club when it called asking for more information about his name request.
and in another Cohen petitioned the Jockey Club to call his colt Effinex. He was turned down. Then he wrote a letter “with a lot of big words in it” and explained that Effinex was a German term for “efficiency and integrity.” He had used Google translations to discover this. That was approved. But if you approach it phonetically, Effinex sounds like a sanitized term for a former spouse in a particularly brutal divorce, like the one Cohen had just experienced. “I’ve decided to name all my horses after significant people in my life,” Cohen said. “And I had an epiphany: This particular person needs a horse named after her.”

Agree with you, 5wide. I've mentioned this horse before in other threads and am surprised it got by the Jockey Club. Phonetically speaking I can imagine the thought process now, "my EFFINEX took all the money in the divorce"! R.I.P. EFFINEX!
