With what happened to the Astros today my Red Sox are probably in deep sh!t. Goodbye Alex Cora, draft picks, money etc......
ESPN Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch were fired by owner Jim Crane on Monday after Major League Baseball's announcement of discipline following the sign-stealing scandal.
A league investigation confirmed the Astros had cheated by using a camera-based sign-stealing system during the regular season and playoffs of their World Series-winning 2017 season.
Luhnow and Hinch were suspended for the 2020 season, but Crane said the team wanted to go beyond that ruling.
As part of the league's penalty, the Astros will also lose first- and second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021, and the organization was fined a record $5 million. MLB said in its statement that if Luhnow or Hinch "engage in any future material violations" of MLB rules, they will be placed on the league's permanently ineligible list.

Relying on teams to ban technology is a not realistic. "Hey try not to see that sign that you really want to see and everyone watching on TV can see" They should instead embrace technology that lets the pitcher and catcher / manager securely call the pitch and try to move the 4 hour game along a little faster. Just let them communicate by watches/something embedded in the glove or something that can't be picked up from centerfield camera....until they figure out how to steal that too.
As for the penalty...they had the best team AND the best cheaters: that's a recipe for a WS win. They seemed to do pretty damn well on the road in the 2019 world series, so wonder if they even needed to cheat like they did at home. I have a hard time believing the other teams didn't do something to relay signs during the games, and probably the astros were the most egregious/most successful cheaters.

Big decision for the new GM. ESPN story saying Varitek a possibility.

Beltran fired by the Mets. Much more to come. Got sources with Sox and Blue Jays. Another 6 to 8 teams implicated/under official investigation. MLB trying to limit the damage. Hard to keep secrets in this day and age.

Just heard (don't ask) that Manfred came out with the strong penalties to try and put this behind the news cycle. Lot more crap out there, some might become public. We'll see who has the stones to blow it up. Your team is probably involved. #Damagecontrol

Some tidbits I read yesterday: In the 2017 playoffs, Altuve had a home OPS of 1.540 and a road OPS of .497! In 2017 when they won the World Series, Bregman had a playoff OPS of .857 at home compared to .508 on the road.
